Conference Expansion question

I know we've beat this dead horse, but why would Missouri explore other conferences without some idea what the SEC or Big10 would say? I can't believea "vote" to accept a school would take place without a show of hands first. This is kindof like hiring a coach- you dont need ESPN reporting every other day about which coachhas declined the job (TN). Its got me to thinking Slive is just playing games to get things moving- WV, then Missouri.

Who are the SEC schools that voted against them and why? I believe it was reported that a majority of SEC presidents did approve the move, but they didn't get the required 9 votes. So that means that at least 4 schools voted "No". Don't get me wrong. Adding Missouri doesn't exactly ooze excitement like a Texas A&M, but they do seem to be about the best real possibility right now. I just don't see a school like FSU or UNC leaving the ACC.

Bama, UGA, and FL, and then either UT or USC.
Bama doesn't want to move to the east, and I'm guessing 3 teams in theeast don't want to have to compete with Bama to get to Atlanta. I'm iffy on whether UT finds the Bama rivalry so attractive that they'd rather have them in the east than lose the game.

We know Bama was one, and we can assume Tennessee was another, so that's 2 there. No idea who the others might be, but I'm sure a lot of schools are concerned about the possibility of a 9-game conference schedule. There's been no formal vote, so it's still likely that there are some discussions and negotiations going on. I'm not for expansion beyond 13, but if we're going to expand, it needs to be Missouri and screw what Bama and Tennessee think. If their rivalry really means that much to them, they may just have to play it as a non-conference game if the alternative is taking someone else for #14.</p>

where they're caught in serious negotiations with another conference's school behind everyone's back. So until Missouri let the Big 12 know that they were going to at least evaluate their options, I doubt the SEC would talk to them much at all.

Why should the SEC add Missouri at this point? The Big10 has told them "no thanks". There seems to be no interest from the Pac12 or ACC. Also, Texas, Oklahoma & Ok State have not committed to the Pac12 yet. So, if I am Slive I leave spots 14-16 open and court those three. When it becomes known that those three are going elsewhere and the Big12 is folding. Then you sign up Missouri. They will be desperate IF the Big12 folds.
