Yea, Boeing had basically let it be know that if the Union passed, the plant was going to be shut down and moved.
Read up on it. The workers voted to decertify IAM when they saw what union life was like when Vought owned the plant. The active campaign against the union which was effective was from the workers--not management or government. When the out-of-state organizers canvases door-to-door they were met with a lot of hostility and a few times with guns. The workers not only didn't want the union, they hate the union because of their experience with the union as Vought employees.

Attitude towards unions is very different in the south as most states are "right to work" states, I believe GA and SC fall into that category. I think a vote to unionize a VW plant in Chattanooga also failed. Most people in the south and deep south don't want anything to do with unions, refreshing attitude.

Mizzou became the latest right to work state. Gives these states even more of an advantage to lure new businesses. I think WV is right to work as well. Never thought I would see that.

Unfortunately for WV, union, or not, things will always be tough. No airports, ****** winding one lane roads. One reason several manufacturing businesses left was landed cost of materials. Those costs offset any profit.

Charlston, Parkersburg, and Huntington all used to do pretty well when the roads were worse. I don't think that's the issue.
