Did not make the game but my sources tell me Giles just could not move ball and flat wore out second half. Credit is due to the Glenvar bunch, they have the better ball team right now. Good season Spartans. Proud of u guys.

Very good game...glenvar had more gas and our O plays right into their D....and #7 played a great game...two highlight reel catches...now not belittling glenvar...but work on a kicker...other than that...great game

In his defense he usually kicks much better than that..I'm sure he will work on it this week.

I don't think either side could complain about the officiating. For the most part they let them play and most of the penalties they called were obvious. #7 was a big difference from the first game and our running game was much better just like I thought it would be. I was surprised that Giles didn't double team #7 but they must have respected our running game more than I thought they would. Interesting to see how many rushing yards we had but it was significant and a clock killer in the 4th with 4-5 first downs and running Manns on almost every play. Giles couldn't stop it to get the ball back until the 4th was almost over. Reminded me of Giles doing that to us in the past. Giles passed much more but our secondary kept the gains after the catch to minimal damage.

I also heard officials were much better tonight and all Giles fans I talked to just said they flat out beat us. I have no problems when u just flat out lose to a better team.
#7 made key catches at key times...n to be honest you have to never let him behind u...the way we had our safety was just plain wrong...should have been spying...but the better team won

I was surprised too he didn't come over more to cover but he seemed to be worried more about #2 who always lined up on the opposite side of the field. I thought our best option was to put them on either side and that is what Clifford did. This is the first game in a long time that we have passed the ball much so I am glad to see it is still sharp. qb made some really nice passes.

We lost to a better team tonight. Glenvar gave us the ball on their side off the field most of the 2nd half, but we could not take advantage. Great season Spartans. We are a young team. Not a lot of seniors. Will be OK next year. Good luck Highlanders

Good game Glenvar. One of the best defenses around bar none. Giles had no answer. And it appeared the teams had mutual respect after the game which was great to see. Both teams battled but Glenvar is the better team this year than Giles. Sometimes as fans that smighty hard to admit.

Definitely proud of our boys! Played hard and gave it their best shot. In the end it really boils down to Glenvar being the better team and we just didn't match up well against them with our style of football and we just can't have all the costly penalties against good team such as Glenvar. Their front 7 is really good and we just didn't have an answer for it. We've got a young team and we will always be in the mix year in and year out, not to many programs can claim the success we've had. In 3 years only losing 3 games and winning a state championship is not to shabby! Glenvar's had a good group of kids with size and talent come through the last couple of years and have been well coached.

Props to Glenvar. The defensive line wore us out. We have too many kids going both ways on the line which showed in the 4th quarter. Not being ready on the 1st play of the 4th quarter was huge. Giles had to play a perfect game to win and shot themselves in the foot a lot. Had chances and couldn't take advantage. Didn't understand wasting 25 seconds at the end of the first half or play calling in 2nd half or but maybe that had to do with the play of Glenvar's D which was really solid. Stigall is a great receiver and made some huge plays. Agree with the others that they were the better team.

Giles defense looked really tired in the 2nd half. Glenvar #3 rushed for 186 yards and 2 tds, 157 yards in the 2nd half.
Totally be honest...the run on the first payment of the 4th for 60 of those yrds we weren't even set...thought it was a little premature for the refs to start that play that quick...but the whistle blew and half of our team was just getting on the field....but by the end giles was worn out and the pass had opened up the run....just how I saw it..

And pretty loud too! We are very fortunate to live in an area that supports their teams like they do. Football is a game of emotions and when your fans are into it, it's that extra push for the players to make plays. I believe it's a big part of s teams success

I didn't notice that but the defense has to match with what the offense is doing even coming out off a time out. I think one of the main reasons that Glenvar has won 3 in a row is that Glenvar D has worn out the Giles O and they have had nothing left by the 4th quarter which is a 180 degree difference from what is used to be. That was a reason Manns was able to make that long run. Giles had plenty of heart but not enough left in the tank by that time in the game.

I know its all in good fun, which I thought it was creative on their part to do it. Of course, they accomplished what they attempted to do, being annoying and mock us. But as they say imitation is the highest form of flattery. We know Glenvar wants to be like Giles, but it takes time and a lot more years to be what Giles is and has accomplished!

Good luck next week in Big Stone Gap

It was mostly intended to be in good fun..you know that sound has been torture to hear over all the years with all the losses, especially the close ones so it was good to have a response finally...better than the rocks in the jugs...and yes Giles has the program that Glenvar has wanted to emulate but we have to keeping working harder to stay there..things are in place in the off season for the long haul....Because you are the model for doing things right I root for Giles in the playoffs unless they are playing Glenvar. Always have.

Before you get the play clock, invest in better access to the facility. Took 40 minutes to get out of parking lot and there were a lot of cars behind me. Only one way out with that big of a crowd is a huge problem. Probably unusual to have that big of a crowd for a game for sure. Good atmosphere for a game and other than getting in and out the facilities are good. Good luck next week. As far as I'm concerned Union is still Powell Valley and Phil Robbins left a really bad taste in my mouth in 2004!

I totally agree with the parking lot situation. Took me over 1 hour to get out. As part of the plan to rebuild the school they planned another access/exit road out the back past the baseball stadium but the homeowners up there waged a political war against it so we are still stuck with one small road out and extremely limited access. They could've sped things up with a couple of cops directing traffic. That was ridiculous.

Last time I was in big stone gap....seating wasn't that great....ok but not great...have a safe trip yall...
Do you know about how many seats on the visitors side and the home side? Is the place usually packed this year? I am going regardless but don't want to be standing or sitting on a hill somewhere and am willing to get there early if I need to. To ghs89 or anyone from Union. Do we need to get there early? if so how early??

Last time I was at bullit park we filled it up early and I sat in the end zone bleachers which I wouldn't recommend...been several years back...not sure if things have changed. ..and we brought a crowd...but I'd bet you can fill it up...I'd get there an hour early...as for you guys talking about traffic last week...45 minute before started moving...some blue lights directing that mess was needed but we can put a bucket out there for donations for the play clock as people leave

Visitor bleachers are fairly new. They seat approximately 1000. No endzone bleachers anymore. No hills to sit or stand on. Lots of fencing to lean on though. Home side seats around 2500. Gates open at 12. I would be there at 12 for parking unless you want to walk. Not talking 10 miles or anything, but could be 1/2 mile or so. Ryan is wrong about Union fans being there at 8 am...they will probably be there at 7...lol.
That's Thor BTW.......hammer in hand. :)

Graham edition.....

Another angle..

Very funny. I am pretty sure I can smoke the older gentleman in the orange sweat shirt. I will workout this week to make that happen. Doubt I can beat the 1st guy running across the field though. What do I get if I win or is it like the running of the bulls? A win is not getting trampled or gored.

Gored, trampled, or struck by lightening from "Thor's Hammer"... haha. Of course, you do have the easier path since you will be going to the visitor bleachers. Just have to dodge the kids running across the field. They like to trip. ;)

Clarke isn't coming to Union either way lol. They either host or are out of the playoffs.
