Please let me know if you have any knowledge. Received a LTR4883c as it appears the identity theft issues I have been battling has gotten to the irs and I'm guessing the bastards have filed a fraudulent tax return. Letter seems straight forward in producing copies of past returns to prove identity which I will do. Anything else I should know? Thanks.

One would think that the IRS already has copies of your return.

Buckle up. It's a real *****, though I have heard from others that is MUCH better this year. Years of budget cuts has decimated their ability to help all that much in a timely fashion. I would tell you to go to a local field office, but I'm betting that's near impossible in your area. It will work out, just takes time and on the plus side, you will now have a separate 8 digit PIN to remember for the rest of your life!!

lol. They do, they need Bru to produce his to prove he is who he says he is. Fraudulent tax returns are a real *****, but it's actually nice to see them fight back some.

Thanks. After being on hold for 30 minutes i finally spoke to someone in the division. Super helpful and things are being handled perfectly. I just have to follow directions and appears things will be taken care of.

IRS employees are very helpful and easy to deal with.....and impossible to get ahold of. It's a stressful event, but I actually think better in the long run. I'll be stunned if we don't all get taxpayer PINs in the next 10 years

My identity was stolen Dec 2015 by a phishing attempt of FAFSA website my daughter accessed. But i don't think my identity was used in this instance. My wife's employer online hr portal was compromised in February 2017, that had access to everything including her w2. I think this is the source of the latest issue and the fraudulent 2016 tax return.

I had considered services like Lifelock, but never really wanted to pull the trigger on them. It sounds like anymore that it may be a worthwhile service to sign up for.

I'll never forget when I was a kid, maybe 10, I was home alone when someone called telling me my parents had won a prize and they needed a credit card number for processing of the prize. I went looking for a card number to give them, and fortunately wasn't able to find anything. About once a year now I go over computer/email usage with my kids and my wife.

I've had Lifelock on myself (not my wife) since Jan 2016. It is good for those people that don't pay attention to their financial matters. It is mostly duplicate assistance for me as I am on top of all my financial matters and I review basically everything daily. What I have them for is their legal assistance if I need it.
