Here is an article that was on-line about Cord Sandberg and baseball. Just curios what you guys think about this? However, one answer that I don't think it legitimate is that "I trust Mullen". At this point in the MLB draft year, pro scouts have very little clue where guys will go in the draft and thus have zero clue how much money a player might be offered. Due to this, I can say with complete confidence that Dan Mullen and Cord Sandberg have zero clue where he will go in the draft and how much money he might be offered. Because of that, I think its a joke that someone could say that they trust Dan when there is no way Dan could know how much money we could be competing with to get Cord on campus. Even if Cord has told Dan he is coming, he has no clue how much money he may be offered at this point. What if he is offered 1 to 2 Mil? Due to all this, is it borderline negligence of our football program if we don't sign a 2nd QB in this class?<div>

is there is a lot of evaluating that is going on right now. This is the time of the year where scouts are trying to gather info on these players for the next draft.

So, because of that, while I trust Dan, it's probably a little rash to go ahead and get a back-up plan at this point. It's too soon to know where Cord will go in the draft right now- but I think we will probably have a better idea in a about a month or two, though. And if his draft grade is really high, then maybe we go get a back-up plan. We have plenty of time to do that. And Dan knows what it's going to take to sign Cord from a MLB standpoint.

We do have to be careful because he could very well blow up and have a huge year- kind of like Stratton with us, and there could be some scout out there that loves him. So, that risk is always going to be present.

So, in a nutshell- let's wait a month and see where things stand and then move forward from that point.

I will say this- if it were me, I would definitely be looking for a back-up plan just in case.

...I never got this resistance to two-sport athletes at The Mississippi State University. Other than legacies, this is one way we can get 4-* and 5-* players to come to State. So what if they play 80% as good as if they were concentrating fully on one sport? 80% of a superstar is better than 100% of most other players. I bet they'd like not having to play spring football or fall baseball. Finally, having 2 or 3 scholarship football players on the baseball team frees up some scholly space for a power pitcher, blazing fast leadoff hitter, or a cleanup batter.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div>

And you can take that with whatever speculation you wish, he's a midround pick at best without an awesome season. Plus, he has already said that is 100% committed to football when he gets to college.

LBC, I don't mean to be blunt, but your wrong. If the draft were held today this kid would be a top 75 to 100 pick or top 3 rounds without a doubt. State fans can continue to bury their heads in the sand and say this kid isn't a good baseball player, but that is simply not true. This is a serious situation for our quarterback depth, and when I see guys like Kincade commit to Ole Miss, of all teams, I am beginning to wonder what the hell we are doing. <div>

Also, what prospect doesn't say they are committed to their college? Its all part of the negotiation process. A million dollars tends to change their stance on things. Per the new CBA in MLB, Major League deals are no longer allowed to draft picks. By the rules he could only sign a normal signing bonus.

maybe its our poor luck with QBs over the years or maybe it just the "We are MState" attitude creeping out in me but I just feel like this may end badly for us with Cord and MLB draft. If we had the opportunity to have gotten Kincade's commitment, IMO, we should have taken it. I really don't see a problem with taking 2 QBs in this class anyway given we only currently have 2 scholarship QBs on the roster anyway.

He has been going to summer showcases. Plus, a players stock as a junior in high school is relatively meaningless because pro scouts don't start scouting players till after their junior year because those will be the players in next years class. He hasn't all the sudden gotten better, its just juniors aren't really evaluated by pro scouts. Once they are, the order of players becomes more meaningful. Pretty simple
