Corn will NEVER come back to the B12 (despite any > $ offered) as long as Mad Cow controls the B12.

I'd go back in a heartbeat.

People on this board say that no one wants to come back and journalists write fluff pieces saying no one wants to come back, but how do they really know? (hint, they don't)

I have heard plenty of people that would like to go back.

There is no way to really quantify or accurately know what that percentage is though.
I can remember when Nebraska was a member of the Big 6, Iowa State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri, and Kansas. This conference had a strong identity ending with Oklahoma and Nebraska on Thanksgiving weekend. When conferences expand like the Big 8 when to the Big 12 something is lost. When Nebraska joined the Big 10 it really hurt Nebraska as the powerhouse of the Plains with Oklahoma. Nebraska lost a lot when they went to the Big Ten, lost a lot of rivalries built up over the years and now is just a school who competes in a mediocre
division. Jim Delaney, the commissioner is an East Coast guy who attended North Carolina and main interest is money, the East schools in the Big Ten, and basketball.

If you have a kid who has been recruited (academically) by Nebraska in the last couple of years, you could appreciate that Nebraska will never go back to the Big 12. Being in the Big 10 is the cornerstone for going after good students. It has nothing to do with football or basketball. One of the main benefits of high profile athletics is marketing. Being in the Big 10 gives Nebraska that, without even winning a game. Money is the other benefit of high profile athletics. The Big 10 is more than competitive on that note.
There is no reason Nebraska would go back to the Big 12. Texas has nothing to do with it.

Anyone on this board that tells you they don't miss playing a lot of the old Big 8 teams is probably lying. But you cant go home again. Mizzou & CU are gone, two schools that we rather enjoyed beating. Is the B1G as fun as the old Big 8 or Big 12? Hell no. B1G is a basketball conference for the most part.

How can playing teams like Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa & Minnesota really be exciting? Hell playing Wisconsin isn't even that fun and their pretty good most years. They just aren't very sexy. All the attractive teams fell on the other side on the conference (MSU, Michigan, tOSU, PSU). We basically got screwed like we got screwed ending up in the North of the Big 12, basically a boring division.

Maybe it will be different for the young generation growing up, because that's all they will know. Maybe they will get hyped playing the Hawkeyes. I just don't love it as much. But again, we cant go home again. We are in limbo. The bastards of the B1G. We aren't really wanted. We have no good rivals and we have no where to go.

No doubt...

I miss playing a few of the Big 8 teams, certainly not all of them. Iowa State?

This is entirely wrong. It's not an opinion, it's just wrong. The Big 10 leads all P5 conferences in NCAAF titles, and is one of two conferences with a playoff championship.

We are home, and I'm glad we were tossed a life raft when we were. The B1G offers so many advantages, especially in academics. We haven't had success playing football and basketball since we joined. That's not the B1G's fault, that's our fault. If we had won a conference title or two by now I bet this conversation would be different.

We aren't really wanted? What does that mean? The B1G invited us, of course we're wanted.

I've been a Husker fan for my entire 30+ yr life. The Iowa black Friday game means exactly as much to me as playing Colorado that day. Neither means much.

It's weird seeing this sentiment among our fans. I don't get it. Did you forget about Texas? Did you forget about the conference network? The offices moving to Texas? The CIC and it's research money? The shitshow the Big 12 refs gave us on the way out? That the Big 12 may STILL implode any moment?

Well said, young man, and thank you for posting.

As to these sentiments expressed by some, I attribute it to nostalgia for the familiar. A familiar no longer enjoyed. It will pass.

But to our lack of athletic success here in the B1G it is fair to point out that in our five years we do have the fourth best conference record in football along with one divisional title. We also have the third best conference record in baseball.

None of that is up to our standards but these things do match up well to Big Ten standards. We haven't been nobodies.

You're absolutely right. I think many Husker fans expected to steamroll when we entered the league, and that hasn't happened. Maybe that's a better way of explaining it. Thanks for putting that out there, we're not failing the B1G.

I am absolutely guilty of this.. I thought for sure we would just roll through and wipe the mat with the level of football we were playing in the Big 12. It was like basketball on grass if I remember the term correctly. It was wild, fun, exciting. In fact, I still think we could have done much better and I always thought Bo made a mistake to change our style of football to fit the slow boring play of the B1G.

I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the Big8. Loved that conference, but times change. There used to be 2 or 3 games on TV on a Saturday. College football is a huge business. IMO the B12 is a hemorrhoid waiting to be popped. That conference is waiting to bleed out. The teams that are in the mix for expansion are startling. Personally I would love to see OU & Kansas join the B10. Bring in OU for football & KU for basketball. Texas would be great, considering the TV's, recruiting & everything, but I can't stand the crap that comes with them. It's like taking the most popular girl to the dance then you find out she has herpes & the crabs.

Look, I'm sorry if this offends you, but I just don't care about Iowa State's football program. Iowa State is a great college, I looked at doing grad school there, but that doesn't mean I miss playing y'all. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that, either. No offense, not trying to be rude or caustic and it's certainly not personal, just don't care about it. Not just ISU, that's just the example I gave.

I miss playing OU. Maybe I'm too young to remember anything exciting about the other schools, but it certainly seems our rivalry with OU was the only one that mattered in terms of importance every year. Screw the Big 12 for ruining that. If the Big 10 brought in OU and maybe KU, I wouldn't feel any nostalgia at all towards the Big 8/12.

KU? I'm not sure we should bring basketball up in this discussion given the fact that Nebraska has never won a game in the NCAA tournament

Alright look man, I tried explaining my opinion and you're taking it way too personally. Kansas football gives us a closer road game and history in the B1G West. And yeah, their hoops program would be a huge addition.

Hope the Big 12 doesn't crumble because ISU will be damn lucky to land in a G5 conference.
