Alright, so I live in Austin, TX. This entire project is a joke (a 17'n Courtyard at the main intersection of town and campus? yay.) and proof that Starkville will never get out of its own way. Small minded growth at its best. Suggest stopping by Austin sometime and seeing what development is really all about. Local. Unique. The core of the city's success.

Beef O' Brady's? Jesus. Embarrassing.

Can you honestly not see the difference in Austin Texas and Starkville mississippi? With that said, the project took 6 years and 3 developers to finally happen. The project is lucky it got something as good as marriott to commit.

Interesting about beef o'bradys, the one in Madison county only lasted a couple of years. Reviews were not good.
I was gonna joke about comparing starkville and Austin, but the way things are going, starkville is well on its way to becoming as Looney left as Austin.

Chains also bring regional association. People from Gainsville, Red Stick, Tuscaloosa, College Station know what a Chile's is and will bite. They will pass over the local establishments to chose a national brand because of familiarity.

17 that. No one from Gainsville, Tuscaloosa, or any of the other god damned SEC cities knows how to use Yelp or has the brains to ask any of the 60,000 happy-go-lucky MSU fans which restaurants to go to? That is the worst excuse I've ever heard for why Starkville needs to ad 3 more chain restaurants to the pile.

Those folks can't possibly make up enough revenue to keep these businesses alive. I lived in Starkville for 4 and a 1/2 years and the only time I ever went to Chili's was my first semester to be ironic and order margaritas... Because they were notorious for serving to 18 year olds because otherwise they'd never make any tips, yet still no one went there. How Ruby Tuesday's and whoever else stays alive is beyond me. And why anyone would look at them and say "we need more" blows my mind. If they got MBA's at State we need to be bumped out of the top 200.

Even BWW's has cooled down since the first year they were open. I remember when they first opened it was impossible to get a seat. The last time I was there it was pretty sad, and it was during a reputable game people in Starkville, MS should have cared about. It's got to be one of the least earning BWW's in the country*.

*only BWW I've ever been to that isn't a "bar"

One thing I don't understand is why not go after Soulshine or South Depot Taco for the space they would kill it next to the district

Is US Bank a Mississippi based CDE? I know Trustmark is, I don't know all the local CDE's. I'm working on a project that is looking on some similar financing strategies.

No, US Bank is buying allocation from an out of state CDE. Shoot me a PM and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

What in the name of hell?

Austin and area has about 2/3 the population of the entire state of Mississippi. Starkville is and will always be a small rural country town that's home to MSU. You're comparing apples to moth balls.
