Finally? What has it been 4-5 years in the making, planning, designing....

it looks at though its gonna be scaled back a little. The original numbers I saw were around 120 million to be invested, now its about half of that. I think its gonna work wonders to the community and fill the deserted space finally. This project will be incredible to the surrounding area and will make people think different about starkville. It's about time, finally.

They just completed the cleanup from the destruction of the old movie theater... Plus, I know they have secured a new investor (I know him personally)

but this is just something that seems too good to be true, if it ever does get done. I've been hearing about it for years now and it always seems to hit a snag. Always. So like I said, when ground gets broken, I will then be a believer.

and based on what I have been told (via the new investor) they have secured 2 large well known restaurants and multiple retail stores. For a project like this to get off the ground, you HAVE to secure tenants. Otherwise, a smart investor and banks will not front up the cash.

They were proud of this a few weeks ago. I haven't heard anything about it in a few weeks, but they said the final real estate deal was going to be completed in the next few weeks.

They also said it'll be phased in, starting with the Cotton Mills Building (can't remember it's name). I wouldn't expect that area to look like those pictures for quite some time (at least 5 years, probably more like 10). Not a knock on MSU or Starkville, really more an indication of the economy than anything else.

However, progress is still promising. Should be a tremendous asset for the area if they ever get it completed.

Somehow I don't think it will sell. But at least my wife would finally let me go to Hooters. I've heard their chicken wings are good.

"It" will include a 150 room hotel, complete conversion of the Cooley Building into a convention center and hotel, and a detached 2 tenant restaurant building. They have LOI's with the two restaurants, I think you'll like them both. As for losing gameday parking, the lots to the north of the Cooley Building are to remain the same. How they end up handling gameday parking there, I don't know. Roy, the design team is led by Cupkovic Architecture.

the log cabin (Burger King) is gone.....I assumed that would happen but that building never came close to maximizing it's potential. Could have been something really different and distinctive to Starkville but a bank and a fast food joint just didn't quite cut it. Kinda like the super hot girl who just continued to date the biggest douche bag in town and would move on to the next douche when he dumped her.

In addition.....can it be that the hotel beside the log cabin is gone as well?? Good riddance there. Nothing but an upgrade...even if they left it as a vacant lot.

that have both been rumored since at least 1998. Just visualize the sit-down version of a combo KFC/Taco Bell (or its lesser known evil cousin, the Long John Silver's/A&W)

Will there be any kind of bar scene here? After visiting towns like Athens and Gainsville, the one thing Starkville really needs to improve on is the night life. Now let me say I understand what this place (without bars) will do for this town. However, as our university continues to expand, our town needs to do its' best to expand with it. And that means making it a better overall college town, with more than 5 bars. However, this is a huge step in the right direction and I love the way Starkville is moving in the right direction.

That Weismann has been working on a plan that rezones much of this city in one swoop, and they way he has been drawing up the plan he would be able to pass by a lot of the "problems." That had been the plan in the past. (There were many other things that were being held up as well, and something has to be done.) I don't think this was a problem they were ever seriously concerned about though either. They knew that would work out in the end, one way or another.

But those buildings look alot like the new residence halls that are on campus. Are the plans being developed by the same people who designed Zac Village and South Hall? I think that will be a great addition to the city of Starkville.
