I know he was a Pre-Madonna even back to his Clinton HS days, and that he "quit" in a game at Halftime, maybe? And that he got really fat and busted with dope...

I'd just like an objective synopsis...

Parade All American from Clinton MS. Early on showed promise. Work ethic was

terrible, got worse every year he was here. Ballooned up in wt, slowed down in speed, couldn't be counted on to get a single yd on a dive when he was pushing 260# (I would guesstimate). On Sr. day was booed heavily before the game and walked off before the game started, changed clothes and left. Next thing we heard of him was getting busted for large amount of illegal substances and was sent to the pokey. That's the Cliff version

then showed up to talk to the dandy dozens this year, weighing about 400 and wearing an Alabama hat.

Dontae Walker was probably the most talented running back that I've seen in a MSU uniform. That's saying a lot because we've had a lot of really good running backs. If I remember correctly, he was the number one running back in the nation in his recruiting class. Many people questioned his work ethic and commitment. His weight ballooned out of control and he was ineffective at times. But, when he was performing at a high level, he was awesome.

Dontae's major problem was that he played with a guy named Dicenzo Miller. Dicenzo didn't have Dontae's talent, but was all heart. Played with 100% effort all the time and was thus just as productive as the more talented Dontae. The contrast between the two was startling at times. The fans let Dontae know about it, Dontae seemed to get discouraged and quit. To let you understand the difference between how fans view Dicenzo and Dontae, when we ask who is your favorite MSU player of all time, many people list Dicenzo Miller. Not just favorite running back, favorite PLAYER to ever wear a MSU jersey.

To me, Dontae's legal problems are irrelevant because they happened after he left college.

Despite all of this, I don't think Dontae Walker should be booed at MSU you ever again. Despite his faults - and we all have them - he is one of ours. I think we should be bigger men and let bygones be bygones.

Dontae was coached in HS by a very good friend of mine. Parade AA, NFL talent- very little work ethic. Actually got offered 30K to go to Bama out of HS, and my buddy talked him out of it (told him Bama was notorious for not giving their recruits what they promised once they signed).

Had 2 really good years his Freshman and Soph years- then the drugs and nightlife took over and he wasnt very productive his last 2. It didn't help that our OL got alot worse during that time as well. Ended up arrested and got railroaded into prison for a few years

I'm a young'en and only know who he is because of "bust" stories and such from the pack, so I doubt many at all in the student section will know to boo him.

I doubt there will be many people at all in the student section at all tomorrow, so there's that.

If there are boos, they'll come from the 30-40 year olds who I doubt want to boo a guy over something that happened over 10 years ago at 11 am.

This was my biggest concern about not getting the 2:30 kick. The atmosphere would have been much more of a big time home field advantage had we not had to kick at 11:00. Thinking back the Auburn atmosphere was pretty good but nowhere near like it was for TN. I think a non-morning kickoff would definitely have helped our chances of winning this game. Just no way to get the crowd as riled up at 11:00.

King Jackie even said so.

That's why I said "probably". I knew the Keifer McGee argument was out there. However, I watched them both play in high school and I'm telling you Dontae Walker left me just as speechless at times. Both were very, very good.

Strange thing about Dontae........

was how smart he was or is. He was extremely talented, really smart and incredibly insecure. He'd intentionally fail tests to avoid being teased by his teammates.

As for football, he was a great back when properly led by team leaders. When all those leaders left after '00, he became what is ingrained in most everybody's memory. I prefer to remember the Dontae from '00. He and Miller were the best combo in the country.

Sarcasm on that first bit?

He copied just about every single one of my English Comp 1 quizzes. Shy? Yes. He was the inverse of Willie Blade. Really smart? Never got that impression, but maybe he was a math guy.

Dontae was a different player in high school.

Sure, he could run people over, because he was built. But he could fly if he had any space. He could beat the defense to the corner and then outrun them all to the end zone.

Dontae powerlifted his HS junior year in the 180-lb. weight class. I don't know what class he was his senior year, but it looks like he was listed at 205 by recruiting gurus. He looked completely different from day 1 in Starkville - bigger than he was in HS. He was still good for the first 2 years, but by years 3 and 4, he ballooned to allegedly 250+ (he was listed at 245 as a SR). Couple that with our dropoff in OL (as Coach mentioned), and it went downhill in a hurry. He ended up leaving the field (and the team) during the Arkansas game his SR year.

When Dontae was made a Parade All-American, his mother got him a gift - two gold front teeth, one with a D stamped on it and the other with a W. Also, the rumor around Starkville was that he chose MSU because he was close enough to home to keep up his dope business. A few years later, that rumor was somewhat corroborated...

He was the biggest recruit ever signed by MSU (#1 RB in the country) and most talented I have ever seen here. He had the coaching staff by the balls. Rumor is he kicked another players teeth in right after he got on campus in the locker room after practice and the coaches turned their heads the other way. Per a player on the team with him, he ran a prostitution/drug ring while in school. An entire hotel floor was blocked off for him with bouncers at each room. He got fat his jr year and sucked but the coaches would not pull him. If Bama offered him $30K, we must have given him a lot more.

Exactly.... Get your asses out there and keep the buzz going from Fri night...

You 17ers can sleep all day Sunday and skip class on Monday if needed. Wish I could skip work and sleep in just once.

The season hinges on this game! Get up and put some makers in your coffee.

King Jackie even said so.

He was like Barry Sanders in some ways, and he was very, very good.

I wish I had video from the Memphis game his sophomore/junior year. I was there and Jesus, he went off like a freaking bomb. I think he had like 300 app purpose yards. He continued his rampage up until he tore his ACL at USC. Jackie said then he would have eclipsed 2000 yards had he stayed healthy.

I always attributed it to extreme laziness...

partly due to how good he was. Knew a few guys that played with him in high school. Said he was just so much better than everyone else he just didn't care. It wasn't that he had some big head and was looking for a payout, or any of the other crap that gets thrown around about what he did. It was just that he was pretty much self destructive, easily influenced, and didn't realize what he could have done with his talent. So, he pretty much 17ed it all up, not by expecting it to be handed to him, but by never accepting the fact that he actually had the ability to be a superstar. He let the wrong people in and it brought him down. Pretty much what you mentioned happened after 2000.

Michael Dyer reminds me of Dontae, running style and size. Dontae may have been a little more powerful. He abused Clemson in the Peach Bowl, one of my favorite MSU games.

I have never heard that regarding the kicked a players teeth our day 1. Sounds like ********. Dontae got into lots of trouble but never heard of him fighting. Hanging out in bars, chasing chicks at Old Venice, yeah.......

That cut to the outside in the UF clip was sick

Sad to see such talent go to waste. I recall seeing Dontae no less than 5 times in the AM hours at Hardee's back in my day...during football season at that. Not a big deal for the typical worthless drunk like myself in those days. Starting SEC RB on the other hand....

I had to laugh at the last clip

when it was talking about how John Micheal Marlin had missed an extra point earlier in the game. Typical. Why Dontae didn't start as a freshman is one of those mysteries to me. But that was how we rolled.

Here's my cliff notes...

#1 rated RB out of HS, had one good season at State his freshman year. Then he turned into a fat grilled out gangsta wanna be. He got 25 years in Parchman. 25 17ing years for possession of weed and coke. Had he gotten distribution on top he would of gotten life. If you ever drive by the car wash on 82 I'm pretty sure "Big D" will be there washing that hideous Green Bay ride of his.

Probably was BS. I was a Soph. when Dontae got on campus and knew some people who went to Clinton HS with him. He was all the buzz coming in and several people that knew him pretty much predicted what the outcome of his career would be. I just remember the rumor around campus at the time was that he kicked another players teeth in but I never saw any evidence to prove it. Now the second part about the hotel rooms I do believe based on the person that told me. He didn't tell me at the time it was going on, but told me several years later. I think the fact that he is in prison now would support that it certainly was a possibility.
