Receiver Anthony Evans, Bulldogs looking forward and not in the past

When former Georgia receiver Anthony Evans transferred to Mississippi State, he noted that he was simply looking for more opportunities to display his talents. The Texas native has done just that and more in his junior season at Mississippi State.
Heading into Saturday’s matchup with Texas, Evans currently leads the team with 42 catches and his 471 receiving yards ranks ninth in the SEC. Earlier this week, Evans met with the media to discuss Saturday’s meeting with Texas and bouncing back from the disappointing loss at Florida:
Q: What do you feel like it’s going to take for this team to get over that hump this year?
Evans: I think it’s really taking advantage of every opportunity. Obviously, we left some plays out there and obviously, we know we’re going to get more opportunities here in the future and Saturday, as well. So just taking advantage of every opportunity going forward.
Q: What went into the gameplanning of taking those deep shots down the field last time out?
Evans: Just when the ball is in the air, make a play. Just believing in yourself, tracking the ball and when your number is called, just make the play. That’s really it.

Q: How frustrating is it to look back and see those close losses?
Evans: We obviously evaluated it every day, every week. We are just two plays away from being 6-1. So we just look at that. We can’t dwell in the past. So it’s looking forward and seeing what happens on Saturday.
Q: What have you seen on film from Texas’ secondary?
Evans: I just think they’re a pretty good team. They’re good. Their defense, I think, is Top 10 in the SEC or Top 10 in the country. So just go out there believing in ourselves, trusting Coach (Jeff) Lebby to put us in the right spots at the right time. And just making (plays) when our number is called.
Q: With those close losses and the frustration, what’s the overall mood of the team?
Evans: Like I said, we just can’t dwell in the past. We’re just looking forward. Like I said, we left a lot of plays out there. We shouldn’t have even been in that position towards the end of the game. Just make plays when our number is called and we won’t even be in those positions like that.
