Could it be that the NCAA is trying to protect itself?

The Cam Newton saga continues to unfold at the snail's pace that is typical for the NCAA. As of yet, they haven't released any findings one way or the other. I wonder if the reason is that they (NCAA) is more interested in protecting itself than getting at the truth. By that, I mean that they could be looking for a way to protect one of their darlings (Auburn) but just want to make sure that in protecting them that some pesky facts or findings don't come up later and bite themselves (NCAA) in the butt. Just sayin'

I think the NCAA has proven that nobody is safe any longer.

than USC. And they got hammered. And this appears to be heading in the same direction factually [agent or agent's proxy provides financial incentives benefiting parents of target]. All the NCAA has to find at this point is that AU played a player who is ineligible. Penalties will then flow. The severity of the penalties will depend on whether AU was aware or purposely looked the other way.

You're probably right. It's not likely that the NCAA would do that, especially since they hammered USC the way they did. I just thought it was a possible, if not likely, scenario.

Hell, they've penalized Auburn more than just about any other school in the country over the years.

there's a huge difference in a family getting money from a wannabe agent and a kid's dad basically shopping him to the highest bidding school. I'm still not sure how USC lost more scholarships than Alabama did. Their boosters basically bought a player. The Bush family merely got paid by some guy trying to rep RB when he LEFT for the NFL.

Auburn has had more major infractions against them than any other BCS school. They have had 6 major violations throughout the years

as Mullen said, when was the report made to the NCAA? The SEC says our initial report was "limited information" and they received "specific information" in July - so when did the SEC notify the NCAA that there was an eligibility issue?
