"Now, as I look at it from the previous two years, I think there is a little bit more hunger for the guys," Mullen said. "Even though we've made it to a bowl game, won a bowl game and won three straight Egg Bowls, nobody is patting anybody on the back around here, which happened last offseason.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>"There is a little more edge to our guys to take that next step forward."</p>

"You have a quarterback who throws the ball well, and an experienced group of wide receivers," Mullen said. "So, as we view things, you're looking more to throw the football than you have (in the past)."</p>

We have 2 competent QB's in the passing game. I just dont think it will be as profound as some of you do.

Instead of being 60-65% run, I think we will see a 55/45 type of split run to pass. I think all you "passing Spread in 2012" guys are going to be disappointed. You never know- I could be off base this time. We'll see

Gotta agree with coach here, I just can't envision a scenario that would ever have us passing more than we run for an entire season, maybe in a single game here and there. A 55/45 run to pass ratio is about what I expect.

We'll still run the ball a lot. Those expecting the 99 St Louis Rams are going to be very disappointed. I think we'll go to more of a traditional running style this season and less option off the QB. We'll still run the option, just not as much.I look for power runs since we'll have a strong back we can go to and get punishing yards.

as well as gaining leverage on the inside and opening up gaps for backs to get to the second level on a consistent basis. That's what we didn't have last year that we did in 2010. When you can't gain leverage on the inside or seal the edge on the outside, your run game will be pretty anemic because, like I said, you just aren't able to get to the second level. Taking the defensive line out of the equation really opens up the run game because the linebackers are forced to cover more gaps and make more athletic plays on the edge (it also forces them to play back off the line, too... opening up the play-action game). The inability to take away the defensive line results in an anemic run game makes it harder to pass the ball because the defense is expecting it and the linebackers are able to play up on the line more. That's the trap we fell in last year, I think.

He actually threw it 27 times per game last year and I expect he'll be at 30-35 this year. Which is still only about a 55-45 pass-run ratio. You're right that we're probably never going to be a pass-first spread. But I don't expect to see the full blown run-option spread we've seen in some years from Mullen either.

...studied the offensive attacks at Oregon and Oklahoma State in the offseason.

What he saw was:

1) 2 offenses with well-coached WR's. Something Mullen doesn't know anything about.

2) 2 offenses who seldom, if ever, run the ignorant lateral pass play.

seems like Holley may better than expected.
What are you basing that on? not saying he won't be but considering spring practice hasn't started I don't see where anyone would be able to make that observation except maybe in the weight room.<div>

blocking will be improved from last year. Most OL will tell you that pass blocking is a lot harder to do and learn how to do properly, especially stunts and picking upblitzes. We are going to have a few players on the o-line that have never played SEC football, so this is my biggest concern.

Dissappointed with a Mississippi State passing game?.....no ****.

The footwork and communication is the hardest thing to do when the line is having to react to the defense instead of the O-line asserting their will on the defense. It requires a lot of strength and athleticism to square up and stop all the momentum coming at you.

My point was more our need to establish a "bread-and-butter" offense... for those situations where we NEED yards, we can go get them... and we did a poor job of that last year. Too many defensive ends and defensive tackles were having their way with us in the run game and that needs to change, because it hurt us in those key situations. An effective run game will slow down blitzes, so that, in turn, helps out the O-line in pass blocking.

Also, while I'm talking about offense, we need to be able to find our identity and do it WELL, because it's something we can rely on in key situations. That is really what we did not have last year because we didn't know what we wanted to do in key situations. That identity starts with the offensive line. I don't care if the other team knows what we are doing or not, their job is to stop it. Make them commit to stopping it, then take advantage of them. That's where good offense is born from, that very idea.

because our running game had had so much trouble- that's where those extra 26 passes came in.

I just dont see us trying to go all Texas Tech on people...we will throw it a little more- but we are going to get leads and grind it out like we have in the past

1) so i guess SEC corners have nothing to do with our WR looking sub-par. Are we to guess you feel like pac-10 and big-12 corners are not well coached

2) and once again when you line up over a 6'2 corner you mean to tell me that you expect our 5'10 guys to go at them vertical and not try to run sideways away from them ...who the hell do you think we have in the huddle Joe Adams?

Oregon vs LSU
7-47 6.7 L. Tuinei
5-28 5.6 J. Huff
2-22 11.0 J. Hoffman
3-21 7.0 D. Paulson

a HC that is willing to alter the plays to accomodate the players. No more "there is nothing wrong with my playbook" crap.

And for the record, I do have the sneaky smart phone pic that I'm going to add (at the request of SPS) soon.

All this discussion is mute if ole Les calls the same predictable "Croom-esque" offense that he did last year. How many times are we gonna run it up the middle for a loss? That ***** better change.

Dan wears a headset for a reason, no? Just sayin'.
No, you're right, some blame is on Dan. However, Dan doesn't call the plays; he gives Les pretty much all the say, with a play or recommendation here or there from Dan. I think you could tell when Dan was calling a play last year; remember those crazy formation sets for gangsta Farve? Those had to be Dan's call.

much improved Left Tackle are more of a reason for a little higher passing % We need one guy that can go get it make a play. Trying to think of the last reciever we had that another team had to focus on.</p>

Is he still trying to get a medical redshirt? And would he participate in spring if his status is still up in the air?</p>

is the last guy I can think of that could beat any corner in the league no matter what team. he would go take the ball from people and there wasn't a damn thing they could do about it. He could be/is probably the best wr in the history of mstate. We haven't had one that I can remember that could get away from georgia, lsu, bama press coverage.
