Cowbell question

I'm sure it's in one of the hundreds of posts somewhere. But if the cowbells are made illegal by the SEC, isn't that still just for SEC games? Won't we still be able to bring them for OOC games?

To answer your question, I sent an email to Scott Strickland at the begining of the season asking the same question. He stated that the rule applied to all home games.

I don't see how the SEC can have any say so for OOC games though.

The rule doesn't apply to OOC games..thus why we were not fined by the SEC for the OOC games. Just the SEC Games.
But the school adopted the approach of keeping the rules the same for all home games so things wouldn't be as confusing.

But to the original question...if made completly illegal after this season (ie. removing any and all from the stands that are seen)
will they do the same for OOC or can you freely bring them? Thats a question I dont thin anyone knows as of yet.

if they do get re-banned and we have an option to keep them for OOC games, I'll be sorely disappointed if we apply the rule for all games. Of course, there was a similar issue a few years back where the SEC voted to apply the "sportsmanship" guidelines to all games in SEC stadiums, no matter the opponent, which directly affected our cowbells. LT stupidly voted for it, but it still passed. That might go right back into effect.

When they get banned, and we think the enforcement is going to be strong enough to make us actually stop using them, I would hope Stricklin pushes to allow them for non-conference games in return for agreeing to actually enforce the ban in our stadium for SEC games.

I've heard from one person saying that they don't like the cowbells and wish they'd be taken away. Says they're obnoxious, dangerous and makes us look like rednecks. And that is from a longtime MSU supporter. I just wonder if there are more in administration who deep down feel that way.

That is not true at all, the administration loves the tradition of the cowbells thats why they have worked so hard to convince the other administrations to vote in favor of supporting them.

I'm not saying the administration wants to get rid of them, too. I just wonder. If this guy does, there are probably others. You know how conspiracy theory works and it makes you question things sometimes, though I don't think the Government bombed the World Trade Centers.

I agree the school has done as good a job as they can in trying to educate the fans and give the fans an opportunity to continue the cowbell tradition. If we want to keep them, there's an easy way to do it, just don't ring them at the wrong time.

100% certainty that the two guys who matter, the president and the AD, want them to stay.

You keep letting him feed you your own opinions, I'll make up my mind for my-damn-self...

About 10 years ago, the SEC decided that it was too confusing to have one set of rules for conference games and a different set of rules for non-conference games, so they just said that their rules applied to ALL games. That is a fact. Now, in practice, the rules haven't been enforced for non-conference games as strictly as for conference games, but the rule absolutely does apply to all home games. The only loophole would be if we could convince a non-conference road opponent to let us bring cowbells, the SEC would have no say there. I'm not holding my breath on that happening.

I'm too lowly for LT to talk to me, don't have enough money or prestige. And I have to agree, I've never thought Keenum or Stricklin were opposed to the cowbells, I just don't have much personal access to them. Sometimes it's just hard not to be paranoid given some of our previous history. Still think we should at least be able to ring 'em at OOC games.
