Wow, future generations are losing out on a lot of free early education and behavioral content that was known to be appropriate and beneficial. Guess parents can stream old content instead.
Nah Mr. Rogers was woke.

I listen to NPR a pretty good bit and will miss it, but I think its a fair argument that funding local television stations that can only broadcast on the airwaves or cable is probaby a pretty big waste of money. My rural Delta grandparents were both gone by 2011 and they were last people I know that still used rabbit ears. With that being said, this isn't about the funding or reducing the deficit.

I use rabbit ears. I’m only 45. A lot of cord cutters use antennas. It’s actually a really good pairing with streaming.

They could not get out their own way.
So it seems and that's a shame. Haven't listened to NPR in 10+ years and still watch bits and pieces of PBS but nothing like I used to.
Used to listen to NPR all day on Saturday & Sunday while running around doing errands and watched a ton of stuff on PBS most notably Frontline. Saw the very first show and watched damn near every one of them until the past few years. As the saying goes, Will Lyman (narrated most of them) could read me the dictionary and make it interesting.

Damn. Now how am I supposed to learn about non-binary animals, how cannibalism is fine, that prosecuting theft supports white supremacy, how doors reflect latent fatphobia and racism and how the first amendment is problematic? NPR pushed some insane stories during the Great Awokening but it has gotten better. I still listen to it and PBS has some great programming. It should have never let crazy lefties get their way. It's still more reliable than the propaganda-driven cable networks. It'll have donors who can keep it going and I agree that taxpayers shouldn't have been supporting it.

I've got 2 small antennas on my roof too. I use them to get all the local networks (ABC CBS NBC FOX) for sports and when the weather gets bad I'll flip them on. I think there's 5 PBS/MS Public Broadcast channels that I get also along with various others, 17 in all I think. I stream mostly but the locals have their place still at my house

Plus the local channels have the alternate digital channels as well.

I agree, NPR is annoying. But PBS actually has a lot of good stuff. Some decent cartoons for the kids (Curious George is a favorite of ours). A few decent travel shows. Some cool Nova and nature specials (Pompeii series, Tongan volcano, building of the Eiffel Tower, rebuilding on Notre Dame, etc). And some good frontlines. And the British shows for the older crowd. And yeah, a lot of the shows have wealthy donors contributing, and that may increase now. My kids have memorized some of the donor names from watching the intro to the shows.

17 all the other stuff, but we watch the shìt out of of my local PBS station. Outdoor Idaho and Ken Burns documentaries for me and my kids and British shìt for the wife.

Based on how much difference the NiL investment has made I guess my NIL money is going to public broadcasting now... Future look at me when you 17ers are calling for Lebbys job at 2-8.

Because the cure for what ails the USA is another federally funded woke agenda mouthpiece. I would even let my kids watch Sesame Street these days.

I support and routinely watch PBS and listen to NPR. I believe it’s yet another mistake to shut down CPB, but suspect NPR & PBS will survive - and possibly even thrive.
Yea, I don't understand why people are just assuming they'll go away. NPR has some news programming that is going to be as good as most and I don't think it's any more left leaning or dishonest than its competitors. They actually have some good non-political stuff that is only slightly left wing biased. Be interesting to see if they feel like they have to go harder left tilt without federal money or if they stay the same or actually try to be less biased to compete. Guessing it will go harder left but who knows.

PBS is possibly in a tough spot. Not sure if it will be as easy for them to start paying for themselves.

I grew up with PBS and still watch some stuff there. But it's become so political it's hard to defend. NPR is waaaaay worse though.

Rabbit ears in conjunction with the $30 ESPN package will get you covered for all the sports you could need. Then surf the seven seas for any movie / show streaming. Along with your sport of choice all inclusive package.

I've never gone away from rabbit ears. Always the fastest connection for ABC / Fox / CBS / NBC and crystal clear.

Buddy I already made fun of anyone calling stuff on PBS "woke". Get in line with your sarcasm.

NPR is very left, even people on the left acknowledge that.

It's very left, but is it any worse than what you'd get at CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, etc?

That may be a stupid question. I realize that most of those places haven't had a CEO publicly complain about letting a concern for the truth get in the way of their preferred narrative, but I thought that was more a reflection of her being stupid than them operating differently.

The stuff I've listened to is stuff like Planet money. Clearly a left wing bent on the stuff I've listened to but not to the point of making stuff up or trying to mislead.
