In their fifty-fifth season of football and fifth trip to the postseason, the Rockets claimed their first-ever playoff victory, at the expense of Bath County, 27-0. Congrats to the Craig County team and fans! The second-seeded Rockets will host Grayson County next week.
Postseason joy likewise made a rare side trip to Hillsville, where the Cavaliers of Carroll County notched their first playoff win since 2010 with a 27-21 triumph over Northside. This is the just the third playoff win in Carroll County’s football history.
And finally, the James River Knights came tantalizingly close to joining Craig County in the first-ever playoff win club, holding a fourth quarter lead over Floyd County, and taking the Buffaloes to the wire. Ultimately however, a late score led to a 26-21 Floyd victory, dropping James River’s all-time playoff record to 0-11. There is no joy in Buchanan.
