Just saw she has the 3rd most triple doubles in WNBA history. She just played the 1st game of her 2nd season.
I don’t mean this as a shot against the WNBA, but I think she may be the first genuinely entertaining player I’ve ever watched from that league, and she’s legit.

Sometimes I feel like this must’ve been what it was like when MJ came to the NBA in the 80s. Clark just does things on the court that no other girl I’ve seen can do

It’s more like when Magic & Bird came into the NBA. The NBA was really struggling at the time & they rescued the league. MJ, great as he was came into a league that was already huge because of them.

It is still astounding to me the amount of shade thrown at her by current and former players before she ever set foot on a WNbA court. The level of jealousy was astounding. Especially considering the fact that they are all making more money because of her. I’m too lazy to look up Charles Barkley talking about it, but it’s great. He basically said when he played they loved it when someone else got paid or when some new kid came along that was super popular. Basically a rising tide raises all boats approach.

If your business model is to constantly talk about gambling, does that make losses a business expense?
Actually yes. If you’re a professional gambler you can report on Schedule C and deduct losses instead of on Schedule A where it is limited to winnings and could be further limited

The heat she has gotten from other players should not have been a shock at all. I'm surprised they haven't regressed to "ya mama" jokes on her.

The only full games of women's basketball I had ever watched prior to Caitlin Clark were when MSU beat UCONN and some of the following season of MSU. I had 2 friends who don't know each other tell me about how I had to watch her.

So the night of the Final Four against USC, there was a storm that came through our area and we took shelter. Once the storm had passed, I fibally remembered that she was playing and turned it on. It was in the 4th quarter, but from the point I turned it on Caitlin Clark was responsible for every single point Iowa scored the rest of the game and we all know Iowa won.

I made it a point to watch some of Iowa women's basketball her senior year as well. She is amazing. So after her season was over, I decided to give the WNBA a shot if she was playing. So I tried to watch the Fever games when she was on. She is a straight baller. And based on the way she gets treated in the WNBA, the WNBA doesn't deserve her. It's obvious they are jealous of her.

People like Cheryl Swoopes having to lie about her saying she is 25 years old (or however old she said) when she was 22, taking a Covid year (she didn't) to justify Caitlin getting the all time scoring record reeks of jealousy.

And she isn't just a scorer who shoots from distance. In her first year in the WNBA, she set the all time assists record for a single season and she only had one chance. I bet she breaks her own record this year too.

The sad part is I don't think Cheryl was lying. I think she was too dumb/lazy to even go look. She just assumed.

As already stated Magic and Bird ignited interest in the 80's, MJ came in at a perfect time as Magic and Bird where at the end of their prime, he kept the momentum and then strengthened it further through the end of the century.

The thing that would bothers me is that when she get hammered by the opponents it doesn't look like her teammates ever come to her aid (or just barely). You have a Wayne Gretzky or an MJ, you make sure you have players who make the opponents pay for trying to hurt them.

Well put.

You underestimate women’s unique penchant for choosing jealous backbiting over the collective good.

Mutt's schtick got really old. But I always laughed at his takes on the inferiority of women's basketball. "Lay-ups into the underside of the rim." Got me every time.

Even a demented clock is right twice a day.

I think the WNBA is trying to create an Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark rivalry that parallels Magic-Bird.

One is talented, the other is tall.

They got Sophie Cunningham over the offseason to help with this. Sophie is a black belt in Taekwondo, so she knows how to scrap. Plus, she is good at basketball too.

And it doesn't hurt that both she and Lexie Hull are easy on the eyes as well.

She's a spectacular athlete in a league severely lacking in athletic talent.

I always see highlights from the WNBA games on Sportscenter or twitter or something and I am just kind of appalled at how unathletic some of these ladies are. The footwork and agility is just so so so bad on a lot of the post players.

And I'll take it a step further by saying that this rise in popularity and money is only going to last for as long as she's around. Take a look at this snippet from the women's final 4 this year

The 2025 Women's Final Four saw a significant drop in TV ratings compared to the record-breaking 2024 tournament, which featured Caitlin Clark. The semifinals, averaging 3.9 million viewers across ESPN platforms, marked a 64% decrease from the 2024 record of 10.8 million. Despite the drop, the 2025 Final Four was still the second-most watched in history, according to Front Office Sports.

So in other words, this year's Final 4 that included some of the greatest programs in the history of the game saw a 64% drop in TV ratings because Caitlin wasn't there

One is talented, the other is tall.
In college she was an NCAA Champion, the MOP of the NCAA Tournament, a two time 1st Team All American, the SEC POY, and more.
Angel Reese then set a WNBA record for rebounds per game as a rookie. She was an WNBA All Star as a rookie too.

Reese is nowhere close to Clark in terms of ability or impact or effectiveness. But to claim she is 'just tall' is a wildly ignorant take. If height were the only reason she has all those accomplishments after just her rookie year in the WNBA, then countless others who are taller would have the same accomplishments.

This is what I constantly thought when I saw Teaira McCowan play...but then she was the SEC POY and #3 pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft.
I clearly just have no basis for what I expected to see from an 'elite' post player.

What a surprise, golfer took the opposite opinion of everyone one. I still say that you are just a really bad AI that DS uses to generate clicks.

I am not wrong though- Reese is objectively a good player. She was an All Star as a rookie. She led the league in rebounding as a rookie.
Claiming all she is is tall is absurd.

Even if everyone on here claims Reese is bad, that doesnt mean she is bad. This place is infamous for its wildly dumb takes on basketball. And many posters in this thread are infamous for being unable to even process nuance or context.

I will display reality in visual form, since that might be easier to understand.
Clark is clearly better, but Reese is clearly not untalented.
