If UNC comes out of this with no major penalties, is there any satisfaction in knowing the condescending crap they've been spewing all these years was a farce? I say no. There must be a way to force the NCAA's hand. I believe the fans and alumni of the ACC should put pressure on the various institutions to not play them. The cheating has had the most effect on them.

They are really going to get away with this. Combine it with their likely title and you cannot make up a more sickening scenario.

The whole thing smells badly, I expect them to basically go scott free on the thing. It has become very clear to me that the chosen like UNCheat and Duke will never be placed on the same level as other top schools. The Carolina way was to put alumni in prominent places to assure they would get the upper hand on seeding and anything else of importance.
The days of a level playing field are over, cheat or get cheated. Just don't get caught unless your are the chosen.

I just don't understand why the majority of the member ncaa schools would allow this (unc to skate) happen. Especially the ones that have received a punishment, like Memphis or UMass. If ncaa skates, why wouldn't everyone start cheating?

If Vegas was making $$ wager on the UNC penalty, I'm betting on 1 year no tournament + 100 wins. Titles not touched. And a medium verbal reprimand.

If this is going to be the new norm, we need to set up a no show major asap in order to remain competetive in recruiting. I mean how are we going to compete if our student/athletes are required to get up early and go to class? AFAM is so 2005, so I say we come up with something new. Any suggestions?

But if you cheat on an ACT before college, you are ruled ineligible. Oh, and if you have someone do your work for you in college, you're ineligible. But if the classes are fake? You're golden.

Truthfully, none of it is kosher. What Rose did to Memphis isn't much better either. What is a farce is that people who are 100% athletes have to pretend to be students. The ncaa really should be shut down.

No way to truly know... but it would be pay-per-view ish to see the difference between this happening at UNC vs., say, Florida Atlantic Gulf Coast.

Same exact circumstances/different schools.

The NCAA is creating a really dangerous scenario. From here on out, any school under investigation AND gets penalized, for whatever reason can point to UNC and say "Hey, why didn't they get the same treatment". If they let UNC off the hook it'll be a domino effect every time a university is called out on the rules.

That won't work. The ncaa is full of hypocrisy. They will continue to look the other way for the favored children

If UNC skates, teams should not schedule them. Either play all conference or if all conference teams banded together and refused to play them, that would be great.

This is what I've been thinking all along. If they get away with this, doesn't it kind a set up a precedent for all schools to pretty much do the same thing and athletes around the country could skate by without having the requirement of attending classes get in their way. If NCAA tried coming down on any of them seems like they would have a great lawsuit against NCAA using UNC as an example to win their case. This could really become a mess if the NCAA does just about nothing to UNC, could get ugly.

While that sounds like the easy thing to do, losing accreditation would be far worse than anything the NCAA can do. Might not seem so to the 'fan' but should UNC (or any school) lose accreditation, they would be screwed!!

i like how the ncaa is preparing everyone lol. that they have to defend themselves says it all. they are not capable of doing their job. they are spending more time in pr to defend their non involvement this week than they have in doing their job in five years.

The ncaa has taking all these years trying make a rule to let unc go scott free, just like they done duke.

From the sound of things with some of these players that have gone through UNC, there was no way they could have passed an ACT by themselves.

they won't touch UNC...the only basketball team at UNC that is getting sanctions is their fall intramural basketball league, I think they will let the the spring and summer intramural basketball slide

Regardless what Roy Williams says, or the writers who are acting like they know but dont, UNC will be punished heavily! No way around it....it's going to happen! The NCAA isn't that dumb, they would not be prepared for the firestorm that would follow by letting them off! I belive in some of the conspiracy theories, but...this is one that they have ZERO choice but to drop the hammer!

You're giving the NCAA too much credit for common sense and caring.
They have neither. They don't care what anyone has to say. They are going to do what they want to do and that's it.
They will take the heat if it means UNC is allowed to walk. It's worth it to them to let UNC off the hook for some reason.

They will find a loophole that will allow them to not have to punish UNC, then they will close said loophole so that no one else can get away with it. Just wait and see.

But that isn't the issue, the issue is that the fake classes were set up to help athletes and then other students got wind of it and started signing up to get easy As. Also there is proof that UNC lied to the NCAA as to when it instituted a cap on the number of independent study classes a student can take. There was a cap in effect before 2005 but the basketball players took more than the allowed number. That is an extra benefit and a violation. UNC reported that the cap didn't exist until the fall of 2005, conveniently right after their championship.
