I'd rather have a 35-yard kick thats 4.5 than - I don't like those line drives over there."
So what if it's a 32 yard kick with a 2.5 hang time? That's the norm for us.

About our offense:
Not any different. We're just executing better. When I said early in the season we weren't executing and we were missing assignments, I wasn't joking, and that's what was happening. We're executing better now."
So you mean to say the offense we put out aGAINST LA Tech is the exact same as what we did aGAINST Vandy.

"We're executing better now."

wow...really? 248 yards, 17 points with one drive starting at Vandy's 7 yard line is executing?

This idiocy is just apalling

that you can't blame on execution? I can't think of anything. Even Artie Cosby's field goal could have been kicked harder and lower. he just didn't execute.

that's what makes his statements about execution so dumb.

and what the hell is he talking about anyway. Our offense was pretty damn bad saturday.

MSU offensive output by game so far:
La Tech game - 348 yds offense
SELA - 401 yds offense
AU - 116 yds offense
GaTech - 407 yds offense
LSU - 285 yds offense
Vandy - 247 yds offense

Sure glad we are finally executing to the point where we put up our second lowest yardage output this season. I'm definitely one that believes that the scoreboard is the only thing that matters in the end, but for Croom to claim we are finally executing better after a 247 yd performance is just flat stupid.

And that's my wet blanket post for the Vandy game. We should have blown them out. Instead, we won by 3. Not only that, we gave Vandy 2 possessions at the end. If Vandy has a paltry 200 yards, we lose the game.

Bottom line seems to be. We win = we executed like we should. We lose = we didnt execute.

I swear we could win a ballgame 7-3, with our only score coming from a pick six and the offense pounding out 100 yards and that bastard would say we executed well.

Damn it, my head hurts.

Jackie Sherrill won 60% of his games for a decade. I have full confidence that Byrne isn't going to just sit idly by and watch our athletic programs go to hell like Templeton did.

Sly wants to be able to stick his chest out and tell us all to shove it and that he knew his offense was going to be effective all along. But it is kind of laughable when he wants to take a game that we essentially score 10 offensive points (on legitimate drives) and only produce 240+ yards to preach to us how much better we are executing. I also agree with what was posted earlier that it is pretty ridiculous when you hold an opponent to barely over 100 yards offense which was the lowest output from an opponent against us in decades yet we still have to squeak out with a 3 point win.

His post-Vandy game comments also portrayed the same "in your face" attitude when he referred to all the criticism they've received throughout the 1-4 start. He actually thinks that beating Vandy completely vindicates the coaches and players and should shut up all the naysayers. It's completely mind-boggling.

why you can't let Croom win a game. He gets all giddy over it.

He should have said" We played decent, but our O sucks. When you hold people to 100 yds of O in a game, you ought to blow them out. Also, there has got to be one swinging dick on this team that can punt or kick the ball off into the endzone. We gotta find that guy.We feel good about the win,but if we are gonna go to a bowl, we better keep improving. One game don't mean squat. Hell we pissed away 2 we should have won. We need to get better quick"

....not really feeling good about the rest of the season. 10 offensive points against the 12th ranked SEC defense after an off week. It's more of the same. And while we nutted up and made the plays when we had to, there wasn't anything "flukish" about the win, it just wasn't anything to be that proud of. That said, any other SEC team next to the #13 ranking would be a different story, and we'd all be thrilled, but we all know Vandy being #13 was a huge joke.

That said, there were some things to feel better about. We controlled the line of scrimmage for the first time and were able to run better than we have all year (still not very good), and had Henderson turned around at the right time, he would've caught a perfectly placed touchdown pass in the first half and we would've scored 24 points and everybody would feel a little better.

Which brings us back to why UT is such a big game. We'll see if we've turned this "mythical" corner and we are "executing." The offensive effort we saw Saturday will put up about 3 on the Vols. In my opinion, Croom was in about a four game single elimination playoff after the open date. Lose any one of those games, and you are seriously going to lose any real hope of bowling and the fans are goin to drop like flies. He's put himself in this position, though, that's for sure.

....I wouldn't say that. I'd just say we should get our asses kicked. However this year's UT team is as vulnerable as we'll likely ever see them.

You say you wanna prove we're headed in the right direction now Crxxms? Then beat UT. You might even get me to shut up until the end of the season, or at least until the next head-scratching loss.

that if we do beat UT (wouldn't shock me, they're pitiful), we will lose to MTSU on homecoming. We'll be overconfident and Croom will have us unprepared, like he does most games. Throw in the fact that they beat Maryland earlier in the year and gave Kentucky fits, it's easy to see this happening. Shoot, we may lose to them anyway.
