Crootin ain't over yet. Supposedly Rosebowl is backtracking hard on Toby Johnson

My buddy says that yesterday Rosebowl was feeling almost 100% MSU. Today he is saying Auburn has made a strong last push and now it's 50/50 in his opinion. Let the speculation begin for the next hour and 15 minutes.

I know nothing outside of what these "recruiting guys" say about Toby, so maybe others can provide some insight from 247 or others.

word is spreading all over that we have lost considerable ground in the last 12 hours

I'm hopeful but not expecting

Well if you can't hold your ground for 48 hours after the visit it probably wasn't going to happen anyway. I will say though for closing that if our staff were relievers they would have a lot of blown saves over the past several years. You would think being the only DT in our class would be extremely attractive to Johnson even aside from being closer to his family.

Yep. And people wonder why a lot of our fans are insecure when it comes to recruiting. We have got to learn how to cheat better.

That being said, it ain't over yet...and we all know Brewster won't go down without a fight.

The thing is- I'm surprised because I thought it was genius of our staff to have him in the weekend before he is signing. He got to see Momma for the 1st time in a couple of years. By all accounts a great visit.

Sounds like Rodney Garner has had a big role even since he left campus. Then again, maybe he was just telling people what they wanted to hear this weekend or was on the visit 'high'.

And just to add, if Rosebowl says its 50/50 then just prepare yourself that we aren't getting him. Robertson is about the most overly optimistic guy out there when it comes to MSU football recruiting.

Agreed. Guys are going to go where they want to, regardless. Johnson's mind was 90% made up and he was headed to Auburn, but it was US who made it close. If anything, we need to be giving our staff props.

Holy hell, that sounded like it was copied and pasted from Jeans board

Exactly, no props for "trying" in recruiting because as Ricky Bobby would say "if you ain't first you're last". Just seems to me that if was that sold on Auburn he would have signed with them on signing day unless he just wanted to visit MSU as a favor to his Mother.

Whatever he ate at the Veranda, they should probably take it off the menu if he flips. He should've kept it simple with the Jerk Chicken Wings and BBQ Shrimp (I'm assuming these are still staples of the menu). Maybe Coach Mullen should've taken him to Petty's.

How can a guy flip that never committed to you?

I'm about tired of losing out to the highest bidder time and again. AU signed like 5 DT's and plans on redshirting him. If we can outsell that then we suck at recruiting.

No, thinking that we were leaders is what is sheeptastic.

I think the main reason we did think that was because he was telling MSU fans he saw on his visit that he was going to sign with us. However, we should know that doesn't mean squat when he leaves campus and everyone else is back in his ear again.

You got me...he won't be a "flipper." I'm behind on my recruiting jargon. Next time, I'll hold off on an obvious joke until I've read "Recruiting Dictionary for Dummies."

While we're being so serious, I would add that we shouldn't want a DT to play for us if he bases his decision on a meal of food. What kind of player is that? He should commit for love of teammates, coaches, and school. I don't care what a kid eats at Auburn...but if Toby Johnson does, then that's where he belongs. Let me just put these right here: ***

Well....duh.

The guy is from Atlanta, an Auburn stronghold. Probably grew up watching them. Not sure why anyone thinks this is surprising.

Don't be fooled, even if he goes to Auburn its still a fall back option. He had every intention of signing with UGA until just recently when they backed off. Garner going from UGA to Auburn is the primary drawing card Auburn has over us, not the fact that he's went to school in Atlanta which in my mind is evened out by the fact his family is in MS.
