Seems like a real leap of faith

29-33 record for last 5 years.

Neb. must know something...head scratcher for me.

Got him cheap, maybe? They may be less sound financially than imagined.

He's in a state without much football talent and their biggest rival is a subsidiary of Nike. The fact he's not DFL every year is an accomplishment.

Sounds like the importance was getting rid of Pellini more than needing to make a change for the field

I get that Nebraska is top dog in the state but you can't act like Nebraska is loaded with top talent.

Aren't they the ONLY dog in the state? Can't think of another college with Division I FB in Nebraska.

The bigger issue is Oregon St. has to deal with Nike funding Oregon right down the road. That, and the fact Oregon doesn't produce any more talent than Nebraska does, makes Oregon State a very difficult place to win.

That's because UNO (University of Nebraska-Omaha) dropped football and wrestling when they moved from D2 to D1 three years ago.

I agree with you and think he did a good job at Oregon state. I just think Nebraska is probably fooling themselves if they think they are getting more than 9 wins regularly out of Riley.

This is not a "splash" hire. I don't even think its a lateral. I think they they downgraded and will be hard pressed to win 9 games a year in their weak conference. I think the administration was tired of Pellini and wanted him out so they made a move. I also think that this supports the assertion by many, including me, that the aura of these traditional powerhouse football programs has declined to the point that the MSU job and Arkansas job in this case are >>> Nebraska job for a variety of reasons already discussed.
