No it doesn't.

It means what little inventory that CSS used to have will now be carried by the SEC Network, thus making CSS a non-revenue generator, so it makes sense to shutter it.

It does not mean that Comcast is for sure going to carry the SEC Network.

Note: I believe/hope Xfinity will eventually carry the SEC-N, but CSS being shut down is because it lost all rights to carry SEC content.

CSS was Comcast SportsSouth. It wouldn't make sense to have two channels covering the same thing. I'll stand by my assertion.

Plus CSS was channel 400 which puts it in the perfect place in the line-up right after ESPNU and before ESPN1 and 2.

We are both technically right. xfinity is wanting to open a slot to place SECNetwork and CSS has to go. CSS can't broadcast something it doesn't have the rights to. I got tired of the watching crap about Tennessee and Carolina football anyway.

If Comcast had no intention of picking up SECN then they could have kept CSS open to focus on D2 sports because they can. They are that big.

http://fansided.com/2014/03/15/sec-network-claims-first-victim-css-sports-shut-june-1/

There are a lot of great things to expect with the launch of the new SEC Network this fall, but with the birth of a new sports giant comes the inevitable destruction of some regional carriers. One of the first to succumb will be southern regional network, CSS Sports.
A joint venture between cable television giants Comcast and Charter Communications, CSS Sports was put together to provide competition for networks such as Fox Sports South and SportSouth, with CSS putting much more emphasis on college sports and non-traditional leagues.
On Friday, Atlanta Journal-Constitution entertainment columnist, Rodney Ho, reported that the network would be shutting down on June 1 of this year after a 15-year run.
The reason why, as given by CSS General manager Mark Fuhrman – the SEC Network, who is removing any SEC games from CSS’s broadcast rights.
CSS broadcasts games from many conferences and leagues, including the ACC, Sun Belt Conference, the WNBA and Arena Football League, but in losing the games of the SEC, there simply wasn’t going to be enough revenue to keep the network afloat.
This means that not only with 20-plus CSS full-time employees have to find new jobs, but many minor league teams, and other sports–lacrosse, CFL, and non-SEC college baseball–will have to find new homes for their broadcasts.
SEC-ya later, CSS. It was a good run.

Are channel lineups the same across all Comcast areas in the southeast? I don't think it's channel 400 in Atlanta.

Sure Comcast COULD have kept CSS going, but why would they since it was going to be a losing venture without the SEC content. Them shutting down CSS and whether they pick up the SECN have nothing to do with each other (other than the reason for both is the SEC is moving all its content to SECN). As a practical matter, there's no way Comcast won't pick up the SECN.

It would be in their best interest to announce it by then. Cause that's about when they're going to start losing long-time customers if they don't.

Good.

This is good because I will no longer have to hear people say, "should I switch from DirecTV to Comcast to get CSS?"

CSS is a horrible broadcasting channel unless you like bass fishing and monster truck rallies. You get the occasional SEC game with C-list broadcasters. It served its purpose for what it was, but I will not miss it.

Agree 100% ...

I just hope they have it announced by July 15

I live here in SE Virginia along with a ton of SEC fans, carrier is Cox and they aren't saying 'if' they are going to carry the SEC Network or not.

I don't want to go to Satellite but I'm going with a hard 15 Jul deadline.

The fascination was that a lot of our games, especially non-conference games were kicked to CSS if ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU weren't airing them. This came up a lot two years ago. On our undefeated run a lot of our games against the UABs and USAs were on CSS. I remember the USA game in particular because they would always get the home team broadcast guys to be the commentators. The guys sounded like USA was world beaters and had a roster full of first round picks.

I can see this scenario. Comcast tends to only hike rates when they demand you upgrade technology.
