you'd have been perfectly content to continue thinking that the Earth was flat too. And they definitely should never have built the railroad all the way out to California because that money could have been better spent solving issues in New England.

If we're going to discuss areas in which the government could better spend our money, I can think of hundreds of areas that should come before cutting the NASA budget. NASA is just the easiest target for the entitlement society in which we live.

I worked for DOD agencies for a number of years and was exposed to budgetary issues...there is a helluva lot of waste in DOD and its budget needs to be cut for a lot of things excluding direct military preparedness regardless of what your Mississippi congressmen tell you.
