Tweeted out by an Ole Miss coach. Coming right on the heels of the devastating Treawell injury, what's the general consensus on the graphic?

ETA- It was tweeted by recruiting coordinator Brandon Wenzell fwiw. I'm curious for a couple reasons. I think I get the intent of the message. To be completely honest, I don't fully understand the quote about Tennessee, Illinois, and what that has to do with flagship and how that correlates to love.

What does being at "the flagship university of Mississippi" have to do with playing out of love for one another?

Nothing. And what does it matter what state the players are from? Freeze just tends toward melodrama.

I don't get it....

I do think it's a powerful picture and may have been impactfull if a good quote would have been applied.

I get that

Bo from TN, Quon from IL.

But the quote isn't too clear.

I'm just not understanding how those things tie together with flagship and love. I think the intent is to use the graphic of Treadwell laying injured with Bo holding his hand and match it with a powerful message that exemplifies the program. For example, I've seen Dak graphics where he's pointing up (to his mother) with a quote about MSU not having fans, just family... I completely get that. This one confuses me because I have no idea what it means. It's a very powerful picture but I don't understand the text

Thoughts behind each sentence are as follows:

1) Spread the OM rootin brand nationally
2) Dig at MSU before they roll into town and flatten us
3) It's not gay if it's in a three-way.

Seems questionable in taste, no matter what text you put on it.

Hope Treadwell was asked for his approval.

The Tennessee and Illinois plugs were probably trying to build the national recruiting brand.

I think he was attempting {rather badly} to take on the "we aren't racist" angle. The "flagship" part is just laughable. Nay, just sad. total fail

Kind of reminds me of a story I know called "The Puppy Who Lost its Way"....

What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard... At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

I want someone to put up a picture of Facedown Bo with the quote, "You got a pet. You got a responsibility.' If your dog is lost, you don't look for an hour then call it quits; you get your *** out there and you find that fvckin' dog!"

No one will ever know, because Hugh doesn't have an understand either. Went to Teachers College.

No one tell the Rebs. He's from Oxford!!!**

Nothing at all, really. This is just some more of their "We're above everyone and we take the high road" propaganda.

Ole Miss is NOT the "flagship" university of the state. There is no designated flagship in Mississippi. I don't like that myth being perpetuated.

The quote is from Hugh Freeze's pregame speech before the 2012 Egg Bowl, if that helps any of the context. It wasn't made up for the graphic.

Ambiguity of anaphoric reference is the problem here.

Take out the "flagship" and the quote is just an innocuous, feel good kind of thing. But he did say flagship, intentionally we assume, so things get more complicated.

To what earlier idea does Freeze's use of "that" in the last sentence refer to in the quote? Does the "that" point to the fact that both players come from out of state? Does it mean that these two players can empathize with each other about having to learn the customs of their new surroundings? I could go with that; empathy leads to shared understanding and common interests, which leads to mutual love and respect, etc.

The ****** up part of the quote is Freeze's use of the word "flagship". As others have noted, we assume that it must be there for a reason, and as we continue reading, looking for that reason, we reach the "that" line. Now we are faced with interpreting the "that" to refer not to the fact that these players love each other because they are on the same team, or share the common bond of being teammates despite being from different places, NO, we are left with the claim that the reason they love each other is because they are at the "flagship" institution in the state of Mississippi. And THAT makes him sound like a douche.

edit: okay, I went and watched the speech at the link posted, and it is a different context and the first part of the quote is a bad paraphrase, but the flagship part is there pretty much verbatim, so point still stands. But wow, that speech was weird, about half way through it it veers off into a recruiting speech about how much better next years players are gonna be than the guys he is standing in front of and trying to fire up. Just imagine last year's post-game speech as a pre-game motivational talk and you pretty much have it.

That's as bad as the Opelieka paper putting a picture of the injury on the front page. They're actually using Treadwell's injury to try to recruit?

Yes. I think we had two players on the team from Illinois at the time. It's paraphrased from this speech.

Yeah, because he was talking about the 2 guys who never played from the state of Illinois.**

Got to admit. Y'all are all in. However it's not lost on me that the 3 greatest players from Mississippi universities in the last X years are from McCall Creek, Maben, and Liberty, Mississippi. Keep fighting the good fight.

OK, the video makes a ton more sense than the quote. If CHF gets out of coaching there is a Baptist Church in Jackson just waiting for him.

Statement is simply illogical and unsound. Hugh is trying too hard and there's nothing there.
