LOL. Jeff liked this after he recently posted criticism of Trump wanting people to work longer to earn benefits. That is a butt that can sit on both sides of the fence. Impressive.
You are confused. I posted about raising the work requirement for SNAP benefits from 54 to 64. I have always believed in helping those in great need. A 60 yr who is collecting SNAP benefits is not doing well in life. That has nothing to do working longer for SS benefits.

With current life expectancy, there is no option but to raise the retirement age for SS especially with the population aging. I did like the post as I think it is a good place to start but I would make some tweaks based on my priorities.

Minneapolis shooter targeted kids at a Catholic Church. Remember when we were debating whether or not Catholics are being targeted? No doubt about it in this case.

I don’t think the major news networks will cover some of the stuff coming out about the shooter. Similar to the Tennessee school shooting.
I read where the shooter was a trans female. I wonder if that will get downplayed.

There already is alot out there because the shooter posted stuff on youtube which has been taken down, except not before some got hold of it. Apparently there is a 4 page manifesto/apology to his/her family claming depression, etc. Motive, other than depression is not known. Why kill innocents?

The mayor is upset it’s even being discussed.

Apparently people aren’t ready for tough discussions yet. Might take some more little kids being killed.

Catholic school children have been attacked by trans adults multiple times in the last few years, and the politicians are most upset about the discussions about trans people.

This isn’t a “school shooting”. A student didn’t carry out the attack. This is another situation where a trans adult carried out a massacre of children, at a school/church.

This is actually an argument.

Like tariffs or not, as they are consumption-based taxes, they will increase federal revenue. The $4T is against the debt (not the deficit) and the tariffs constitute about $400B against the deficit each year, but the debt is not constant because the US government is still likely to run a deficit each year.

Right now, neither party has proposed any semblance of a fiscal plan to eliminate deficits and reduce the national debt. But that will likely involve some level of increase taxes and reduced entitlement spending.

If you put me in charge, I would probably do the following:

Raise the retirement age for SS benefits
Increase Medicare taxes
Probably raise income taxes a bit but not much (across the board increase)
Reduce spending on certain discretionary programs
Cap the increase in yearly spending for the federal government at some number lower than growth/inflation (say 1.5%).

This would result in some level of temporary economic pain to individuals, but it would stabilize the federal budget in 6-8 years tho (hopefully quicker).
I believe the tariff, as Trump is using them, can be effective at not only bringing in much needed revenue to the Treasury, but can accomplish several other very good things for the USA. Just to name a couple 1) some will be eaten by the importer 2)this should allow US companies to better compete and create jobs, revenue, tax income that is all incremental.

Let's call it like it is, this is a different path. Like Trump or not, he is at least trying to take a different path to lower the deficit/ debt. Last election was a choice between someone that would have been a continuation of Biden or something different. US citizens overwhelmingly pulled the something different lever and Trump is delivering.

People like Jeff can bash the meager cuts Trump could get through congress, but everyone with a brain knew some form of pain had to come.

DOGE cuts did not go through Congress and they amounted to basically nothing. All the MAGA men on this board were telling me that the there would be at least 1 trillion in cuts. Wrong.

While Jeff and his bedfellow bash cuts as "hardly overwhelming", we have congress pushing the usual projects, left-wingers everywhere crying about entitlements in the street and the ideological leftwing judges in the Judicial trying to force billions in spending upon the Executive. Btw, Jeff and Stone voted for this to continue and now mock or criticize the cuts. Ah, the irony.

I am not certain that 50-48% was an "overwhelming" victory.

Trump believes in tariffs. Tariffs cannot be both a major revenue source or a driver of repatriation (these compete, I think they are more likely to be revenue sources). I do not see tariffs as a fix for the deficit/debt issue, but they are a tool in the kit I suppose because they do produce revenue. Ultimately, we will need to pull out the real tools that involve some actual pain, tho neither party wants to accept the political consequences of that right now. There is nothing in our economic projections indicative that Trump takes debt all that seriously, but he does want to drive growth (which is better than the alternative, and also why I don't like the tariffs).

I do not believe that the USA needs a radically different path, and you seem proof positive of why it doesn't. I think a lot of folks voted (or believe) that the US needs a different CULTURAL path, and ultimately that's driven Trump's success since 2015. But economics ... there's just not a good way to argue that things aren't good here when compared to literally everywhere else (which seems like the correct comparison). I realize that modern economic trends have not benefitted everyone, but as I keep saying, when they clearly benefit 65-70% of the population, the question is more about how to assist the 30% who aren't benefitting, not to decide that the system is broken.

ABC is counting on many just scanning the headline. We have a pattern of trans shootings and the MSM wants to pretend we don't.
This mentally ill trans murdered an 8 year old and a 10 year old! The Dems are already politicizing the event because of the gun, and avoid responsibility of promoting this youth trans they’ve pushed.

Pathetic post by Psaki. She didn’t invent this criticism of prayer. This has been a smartmouthed response of liberal loons for decades now. At least Jen is getting owned. It won’t be long until she turns off comments on her post.

Sharyl Attkisson has an interesting article linking anti-depressant meds instead of assuming trans is the issue.

You completely miss the point. She is not criticizing prayer. She is criticizing those who offer prayers but are against gun control. It rings hollow when people who are against gun control offer prayers. Stricter gun laws would do much more to stop future shootings than prayers.

Well she didn’t thank Trump, which someone I saw tried to make that a headline, but this is good news. Hopefully this surge can bring about more permanent and positive change for the residents of DC.

The tariffs are also an effective weapon to solve wars (Thailand vs Cambodia, Russia vs Ukraine - India getting hit, etc.). Without question, the "it is a consumption tax" is an intellectually lazy argument due to the reasons you mentioned (host country eating a big chunk) in addition to the investment Trump is requiring for market access.

This should definitely be a major part of the conversation.

What % of kids/young adults that identify as trans are on anti depressants? What are the side effects of these drugs? I know they can be significant for adults, I’d imagine the negative effects can be worse in kids.

The rush to put kids on medication has likely played a role in the increase in trans identifying people. But no one is willing to have that conversation.

We can all agree prescribing kids anything should be left to serious situations only, but I am not sure This is the main culprit here. When the left started confusing young(impressionable) people into believing you too can be a hero to identify as the opposite sex, this was a disaster for the spike in trans numbers.

Good idea! Maybe we could outlaw shooting others or even murder too?

Plays a big part too. Telling a depressed kid they can go from a no one to a hero by just making one massive change….its very sad what we have done. The history books will not be kind to this era.

It likely wouldn’t help much. DAs and judges aren’t putting people away for breaking the laws we already have.

Remember when the President’s son lied on his gun license application? Half the country said “no big deal, people lie”. And it’s the half that always pushes for more gun control when a lunatic kills kids.

Also, if people raised concerns about this mentally ill young man, people on the left would call them bigots. They wouldn’t have agreed to take his guns away.

About 15% of the tariff cost is being eaten by foreign producers. 85% of their cost is paid by American consumers and businesses. Tariffs are a consumption tax, similar to sales but on all goods.

It is not my problem that you are such a sycophant that basic economic reality must be denied to defend Trump.

Btw … the economy isn’t particularly good right now. It’s not awful either. But both overall growth and job growth are below norms (the latter is harder to really be critical about because the immigration crackdown impacts job growth as illegals do get jobs).

This happened in 2022 it appears. (The driver is Indian, not Hispanic, so the "them" seems rather misplaced).

Very sad obviously, but not recent and not applicable to the comment.

Man some people can't handle the Internet.
The Indian illegal immigrant was also stopped by New Mexico State Police driving a tractor trailer, and it appeared for speeding.

It was clear that he had NO ENGLISH.

The Trooper is unclear as to what computer look ups he researched, NCIC or SCIC for valid licenses.

What is clear it that the Illegal immigrant WAS RESPONSIBLE for 3 people's death, when he made an illegal u-turn !

We are starting to have those conversations. More and more people last night were connecting the dots. But in Illinois Oak Park and River Forest are doubling down on Tampon Tim’s strategy with our youth.

I was wondering along with a few intrepid posters why you were posting VERY early in the AM.

But assume you were conversing with your Broker while in Thailand.

I was up at 4:00 AM ET this morning 08/27, but wasn't posting or conjuring over financial positions. (Although I bought LLY calls yesterday at 3:45 PM at $ 8.0 and was out at $ 12.0 before noon !)

It was a Rooster !
It's very hard to rid a Rooster from our flock of 30 + layers !

We can't give him away and nobody wants to be the one to send it on to Camp Rooster in the sky !

Yes I was up at 5 AM again this morning.
