That used to be one of the rotating jobs (UNPAID !) at my school, Thompson Academy on Thompson's Island, Boston.
Laundry, kitchen, dairy farm, grounds, boat, boiler tenders that the students would rotate out of about once a month.
So you would have hirable skills after high school.
Every M - F, 6 kids worked the laundry. Either the wash or drying of all the laundry. 4 - 6 guys would have ironing of 6 - 8 shirts a day, with steam irons, ironing boards, damp shirts and hung on hangers when done. Collars, shoulders, sleeves 1/2 or full, back, front, pallet & button holes, touch up hang, next !
