Saw a surprising stat last night during the CWS game. Most appearances without a championship. Of course, FSU had the most with 20. But this shocked me ---- Northern Colorado was 3rd or 4th with 10 appearances. Unbelievable. Northern Colorado? Had no idea they had ever been, much less 10 times. By the way, we are 3rd in the SEC in CWS appearances with 8. Behind LSU and SC.

They just showed the top 5 or so on ESPN last night and I was shocked about the Northern Colorado deal. South Carolina has 9 appearances. Hope they get the chance to take their name off the list of appearances without a title next week against UCLA.

The country was divided into 8 regions and it was always 1 team from each region who made Omaha - you couldn't play in a different regional.<div>
</div><div>I don't think Northern Colorado has made it to Omaha since they got rid of that dumb rule.</div>

the stat should read more like this:

CWS Appearances w/o title:

FSU 20
Clemson 12
Northern Colorado* 10
SCAR 9
Mississippi State 8

* - we can't take you off our record books but let it be known that the Big Sky Conference did away with baseball in the 70's.

There were a couple of fans attempting to make a big deal out of a school with 10 CWS appearances coming to town.

It is the same team.

They played in the Great West conference who added baseball for the first time this season.
Until 2003, they were D2, and a part of the North Central Conference. For the past 6 years they have played as D-1 Independents and have won the Division
I Independent Invitational twice and tied another time.

They have not been relevant on a NCAA level since the change from the 8 regions beginning in 1975.
But before then they were a big part of the college baseball landscape.

From the 2006 Media Guide
Northern Colorado’s run in the College World Series in the late 1950s
is impressive as the program’s six consecutive appearances ranks second
all-time, trailing only the seven straight trips the Oklahoma State
Cowboys made from 1981-87.

Northern Colorado and the District 7 Playoffs
The gateway to the College World Series for the Bears was the District 7 playoffs. The Bears qualified for the playoffs every season between 1954
and 1966, hosting the event seven times. The Bears missed the 1967 playoffs but returned in 1968. UNC once again returned in 1974, defeating
Gonzaga and Arizona and last appeared in 1975, losing a pair of games. The Bears did not win the 1958 District title, but the champion Brigham
Young Cougars withdrew, giving the Bears the 1958 CWS berth.
