I think this is a great move, not only for our defense, but a more direct path for Washington to get playing time and potentially make it to the league. I think once he has time learning the position & defense, this could be a big win for our LB room..

He was 6’2’’ 215 on last year’s roster. Guessing he added 5-10 lbs in the offseason conditioning. Hope he can learn to read plays and tackle....

Yeah, it'll probably take him a good 1.5 yrs before we really see his ceiling, learning a new position and all, but he did play Safety in HS, so that helps is transition a little. He has the body type, and you know he'll be a speedy LB, which is always a good thing... In fact, I would say Speed on Defense is probably the most critical skill, so im excited to see his skillset & body type be used more efficiently while in Morgantown. Kaden Pranther is a beast, and D Washington probably saw he wasnt gonna get as much time on the O, so instead of only seeing him a few plays a game, he can be an impact player, of course in time...

And what specific information do you have to form this opinion...or are you just talking out your ***?

Decent move. I am getting over those big receivers unless they are somewhat bouncy like a Wheaton.

The position WV is having trouble like a lot teams is linebacker....

I haven't seen the players being brought in there like I have seen in other positions

Maybe Washington can work out

TCU does the same thing with a lot of their DBs.
A lot of those players aren't playing DB in high school

People who switch from O to D or vise versa can do well because they have a good understanding of the opposing concepts, points of attack, perspectives, etc. D Washington was a high 3 star recruit, his size & athleticism is really a perfect match for OLB, in fact NB even mentions this in his presser today.

Due to Kaden P & Sam Brown being such a high quality WRs, with similar body types, I would assume D Wash seen the writing on the wall, that he would be #2. So instead of seeing a limited # of snaps on O, in time, he could be a significant contributor on Defense, in a already thin position group.

Between his athleticism, body type, understanding of offensive perspectives(How that historically bodes well for those who change positions), and our need for athletic LB's, I think its far more productive then him staying at WR. It'll obviously take him a while to learn the specifics of the position & defense schemes, patience required, but long term we'll extract more value from him this way. Which is a logical thought process, a theme you should subscribe to.

When you think of many of the great OC's or DC's in NCAA history, many of them started or played on the opposing side of the ball. Because they were exposed to the opposing methods, techniques, perspectives & philosophies, this gives them a better understanding on how to exploit them and/or predict their actions/thought processes. Same goes for players... Knowing WR techniques, setups, etc may provide a unique understanding for DW, compared to an LB whos always played Defense. Obviously time will tell how we will do at LB, but I also trust NB's evaluation on his potential & upside as an LB, and considering how thin we are at that position, if he's talented, he'll make a more positive impact at LB, then he would at WR, and I call that a win. As with every Freshmen, time will tell.

Watch his HS film, if he can hold onto that speed and gain 10-15lbs over the next yr or so, that would make for the perfect physical traits you seek in a LB, we'll see if he tunes his instincts & physicality.

Wouldn't go that far. QBs and RBs are probably the best.

WRs not that much. If matters the individual.

RBs more than WRs because of blocking assignments especially in blitz coverage

Think he is already of sufficient size for OLB. Miami, in their prime used to move speed guys like DBs and RBs to LB. They were very fast and could chase down most plays. Still, most good teams would either run right at them or try misdirection.

We have a big need at LB. I hope it works out.
