A turnover-prone midget from Jackson State??
...this next season is gonna be ugly, isn't it?

This would be equivalent to adding Almonor two years ago. The SWAC is one of the lowest conferences in the NCAA, like the NEC.

It would be nice to have a solid backup option, for 10 MPG or so, at guard that can score and has plenty of experience.

Some of you should hope for this. If he is so bad then it seals Mark's firing. That is supposedly what you want right?
No, most if not all of us want the Cats to be elite and super successful again. If that's Mark Popes doing, FANTASTIC. I, like many others, hold the belief Mark Pope can't do that, which is why I want him gone. There's a stark difference there. I don't want the Cats to do bad so Mark Pope will be fired. I want Mark Pope to be fired so the Cats won't do bad. Some of you that hang on his jock need to be able to comprehend this.

Assist%: 45.9%
turnover%: 15.1%

Braden Smith

43%
18.3%

One plays with a team full of Big 10 players. The other plays for Jackson State. The 3pt shooting certainly is a drawback, and Im not saying he's on Braden Smith's level, but he's certainly a talented player. I'd pass though. I'd rather see if someone like Hubbard becomes available,
He's also playing against B10 teams while the other is playing against SWAC teams. Seriously.

If he’s a backup I could handle it, but we all know Pope wants to play these guys and lineups way more than they should.
So...this is my big concern with stuff like this. If he's a backup, and there's a stud in front of him, and he's gonna play 6-10 mins/game...sign me up. But with the way Pope likes to handle rotations, it's concerning. It's also a little concerning that if Pope actually signs a starting PG and that guy goes down, this guy would be the replacement. I know it's hard to sign two starter level guys...it's just a concern.

It's worth noting his career FT% is over 82%. The NBA takes FT% to be a better indicator of a guy's potential as a three point shooter than the 3pt shooting itself. I'm guessing he was a shot-chucker at Jackson St, and his percentage goes up with a more limited role. That's a dangerous game to play if you're relying on guys taking a jump, as we saw this past year, but especially if he's considered a backup it may be a worthwhile risk.

If you paid attention to my post history you would see I don't hold on to anyone's jock and have said I do not think Pope will make it. My comment was more for the folks constantly getting on here day after day posting new ways to complain about Pope. It is one thing to believe he will not make it, and it is another to constantly whine and complain. The season will play out and there isn't anything any of can do about it. If he makes it then good if he doesn't lets start doing the groundwork now to find the right replacement but either way the season will play out, and it does no good to act like children every dang day.

"The season will play out with Pope whether you like it or not!"

Why do people always say it that way? Like a threat?

Ruffin didn't shoot it well overall.

Poor from 3. Took a lot of 2's away from the rim. That's why his TS% was mid 50's.

His assist rate was elite, He can get to the rim at a decent clip and is adept at generating free throws. Shot nearly 85% from the line so maybe he has some untapped jump shooting potential.

I bi%^& because I care. If that bothers you or any others, I can't change that. I get what you're saying, I really do...and I'd love to have SOMETHING, hell, ANYTHING to be truly happy about. But it's not there right now. The freaking SWAC POTY moves no needles for me. Signing a guy that was an NBA all-star, but by all accounts a horrible coach, does nothing for me.

Sorry about the jock comment, that was an assumption on my part. I'll eat that one. I truly mean what I say though, and I'm pretty certain the vast majority are in my camp on this...I want Pope to succeed, not for Mark Pope, but for the good of the program. There's just not a darned thing in his entire career that would suggest he's capable of that. So far this offseason we've seen moves that have to be explained to us why they COULD be successes. That shouldn't be the case at UK, but it is. And it is because our head coach and the people that hired him are in absolute desperation mode.

The comparison with him and Braden Smith is crazy. They are on different planets as far as being quality PG’s.
