No one is immune to either implicit bias or confirmation bias.
Say again?Lefty loosey, righty tighty I always say.
I think Beau's wife made hime the villain. Just my opinion she seems to have more of an axe to grind than Beau. Sounds like if nothing was stolen nothing gets saidShe has not spoken to him in a couple of years. She made general assumption on what he seemed to be like as a person. No different when we all meet people and develope a friendship.
Once again , I will note . Should the fan base be more upset with Beau or Carter's actions. It seems to me the base is making Beau the villain and overlooking Carter's potential actions.
I just hope that Cael and the staff are given some well deserved grace for the overall excellence in the way the program has been run.
I just don't see this story going away for a while. There will be a voice from the minority that will bring light to these allegations. Hopefully it becomes more about 2 athletes and less about the program we endear.
I'm not going to post anymore about this situation until August. I would think "No news would be Good news".
At this point, why do we all assume that something was stolen? Because Beau and Syd say so?I think Beau's wife made hime the villain. Just my opinion she seems to have more of an axe to grind than Beau. Sounds like if nothing was stolen nothing gets said
Actually, I got immunized against both forms of bias a few years back before traveling abroad. So
Excellent Question. Was there any kind of police report filed? And do not let them do a McQueary and say it was reported to Cael?At this point, why do we all assume that something was stolen? Because Beau and Syd say so?
Not to mention that while veal does come in quarters, but corners is a new menu item! That question has some meat to it.
I think this is pretty reasonable. It seems to me that the thing the Bartletts (at least the wife) appear to seek most at this point (social media influencer status) is becoming the very thing that will be her/their downfall. She just doesn’t seem to know when to stop talking. If they are truly focused on bad conduct and helping others, she would stop making it about herself and stay off social media. File a formal complaint already and prove that you were harmed — that is how you address these very serious allegations. I fear for them that they don’t realize that in-your-face social media warfare is going to soon intersect with a real world lawsuit from at least Starocci. Unless they can prove their allegations, these very public character assignations could backfire on them spectacularly. Her social media posts will become Exhibits A - Z and will not endear her to a jury/judge.
Instead, I suspect the frustration with the lack of meaningful outrage by anyone that matters will cause them/she to soon double down on her goals and make some new/revised vague allegations that will start the whole thing over again. If that happens, it pretty much proves their/her motives and tells everyone all they need to know about this matter. Unfortunately, I just don’t think this will stop until they are forced to stop in court.
Beau was not my favorite wrestler but I definitely cheered for him each time out and really hoped he beat Mendez when it mattered most. Up until now, he seemed to be a good ambassador for the program and he seemed to really enjoy being part of the team. I feel things have gone sideways for him well beyond what maybe he intended, especially with respect to allegations against the coaches/staff. Unfortunately, it is going to be next to impossible to unwind this in a way that will not taint him negatively as well unless he can bring down the entire program and I just don’t see that happening. Sad all around.
As always just my opinions. Feel free to disagree.
Even when you are wronged, sometimes letting sleeping dogs lie is the best policy. Carter is challenged by his persona, so his best option is to let the silence win the day for him.I think this is pretty reasonable.
I'll disagree about a lawsuit being likely based on what we know today. @tikk has talked on the old board quite a bit about libeling/defaming a public figure. I'll leave that to him.
I think it's unlikely because (1) Carter would need to be able to prove damages. "Reputational damage" isn't getting him anywhere, see his IG history. Monetary damages ... what are they? He lost a spot on NLWC, but has he lost any other sponsorships or endorsements? Enough to justify going to court?
(2) Carter might not want to go thru discovery. And a trial would also risk the alleged victims testifying. Based on what we know so far, I can't imagine Carter's attorney advising him to take this to court.

Totally agree....and so glad CS has not escalated this on social media. He must be getting good advice, but still impressed he hasn't responded.Even when you are wronged, sometimes letting sleeping dogs lie is the best policy. HWCWhere does Carter go from here? UFC? Would another club take him in?
Good pointAt this point, why do we all assume that something was stolen? Because Beau and Syd say so?
I think the same **** unfolds wherever he is going. I had a buddy who had a wife like that she always had to have the attention and did the most outrageous things to get it. Unfortunately for my buddy he was usually in the middle of all the ********. Oh boy, more speculation. Just what we need.I always liked Beau and cheered like hell for him to beat Mendez at NCAAs. He was very dynamic…Always hoped he would pull the trigger more and just let it fly.
That said…I am left wondering if the Bartlett’s are pissed at Cael and company for not getting an invite into the NLWC
…or maybe he did…just gotta wonder.

I'm not a lawyer, but...I don’t disagree that if Carter feels he is at risk and has the ability to resume his career, then maybe he shouldn’t pursue. I don’t know his side so can go beyond that.
I do think he can prove damages though and as far as being a public figure, that may or may not be the standard here. Even assuming it is, reckless disregard for the accuracy of the statements is generally sufficient to meet the actual malice standard in a lot of cases. In the article, I recall Bartlett’s wife being quoted as saying she told Carter’s GF about the allegations even though she didn’t know if they were true. She has subsequently made many more public statements in her social media that are more definitive about Carter’s guilt — if she doesn’t know if they are true — that could be pretty reckless.
I have never been suicidal, but I think five minutes with gal would make me that way.
Not Beau hate. Take off your blinders. Beau and Syd are trying to become social media influencers. Claiming victimhood is nowhere close to what influencer wannabees will do for attention. It's how you get clicks. People file false police reports all day every day. All we can say for a fact is that Beau filed a police report. It was investigated. No evidence of theft nor evidence of a perpetrator was found. We just have Beau's word that something was stolen, and frankly given his recent history of vagueness and lack of detail, I'm no longer giving Beau/Syd the benefit of the doubt on anything.Come on now. That's taking the Beau hate too far. What does he have to gain from filing a false police report? I have no doubt he had stuff stolen.
Nothing about the videos surprises me. They seem pretty typical for 20-somethings, who pretty much grew up with / on social media.... pretty naive (sic) about ... social media presence.
I think NYT v Sullivan is the SCOTUS precedent on libel cases with public persons. It is too bad, but no one will come at this unscathed. Once the court of public opinion gets hold PSU wrestling and coaches, C*, Beau ... will all be tarnished. I hope I am wrong.I think this is pretty reasonable.

I agree....but it's sad.Nothing about the videos surprises me. They seem pretty typical for 20-somethings, who pretty much grew up with / on social media.
If these two curated selections are an attempt to show Syd's worst, they seem pretty mild to me.
Don't be surprised by content that appears to you as little more than every thought that has entered a content creator's head being spoken wholly unfiltered. That's the new norm.
I have a hard time understanding how there is an audience for this sh*t and that someone can make money doing this.I agree....but it's sad.
Really? Beau gave arguably more to the team than anyone. He wrestled up a weight for the team, not himself. Your take is really bad. He's a major part of 4 National Championships.“On the way out the door, aided by his new bride, Beau Bartlett disappoints once again”.
First loser may be his lot in life
Someday their kids will see those videos. And never be able to unsee them.Nothing about the videos surprises me. They seem pretty typical for 20-somethings, who pretty much grew up with / on social media.
