Dammit. Wilder left the team.

I think about the big catches he made this year vs. Kentucky and LSU. Yeah, yeah, I know they weren't highly athletic plays and most D1 guys could have made them, but he still did it. He'll be missed. He didn't exactly have a football mentality, but still a great athlete nonetheless.

what he had (obviously...) was speed - enough to stretch a defense. too bad most of the time he was well under thrown by our noodle for a qb. i think we've got speed coming in to replace him. hopefully, this was just a case of him wanting to do track more than football and nothing more.

Guys... I want to head this off at the pass.

This doesn't need to turn into a bash Wilder thread. He did nothing wrong in this situation and he doesn't need people bashing him. This is a career decision... not a leave the football program decision.

Thanks,

Wardlaw

Before signing day would have been nice.

Best of luck to him though.

that would keep the defense off balance. I think we have signed enough athletes the past 2 years to replace anything he would have done. I wish he had decided this earlier so we could have had a little more ammo (playing time) to recruit a big-time receiver like the kid from noxubee.

That said, I wish he was still on the team for a potential break out season b/c he has all the tools to be an awesome WR. He was only lacking a feel for the game (which is obviously the largest component).

Didn't realize this was your board and didn't realize (other than Coach) that anyone was bashing him.

Thanks,

Guys... I'm not telling you what to do and this certainly isn't my board. I just know a little about this situation and more than I could write. And thought y'all should know that this isn't a situation where he was leaving the team because he couldn't take it.

If you want to fire away... that's fine. I just thought I'd take up for the kid.

Also this, "I know something you don't know" **** is as annoying when somebody who runs a site does it as when some random poster does it. If you know it, spill it. If you can't spill it, don't tell people you know it. Simple as that.

Besides, I think we all agree his future wasn't in football. His future is in track. I think he made the best decision for all involved to stick with track.

dont get so sensitive about me making a joke about a track guy with ****** hands...I understand he has a gift of speed and track suits him better. But also, lets dont act like we are losing Randy Moss either. He would not have started for us next year at WR.

Good luck on his decision, but he will always be Featherstone to me and a few others on this board

it is a "career" move. That should be pretty obvious to anyone. No different than matt jones quitting basketballetc because thats about as much as wilder would have contributed. He just wasnt/isnt a football player...just looked awkward out there.

an opinion that has not been keenly researched and that has not taken into account several points of view. Further, he will never allow his personal bias (because he has none) to cloud what he puts out for all to read. Please do not attempt to read anything negative into his comments and stop being so hypersensitive.

hopefully we have enough depth to replace only two catches I can remember all of last season. That's sarcasm for you dubmasses.

I wish we could have kept him for football. But he is a world class track talent.

People inside the athletic department (student workers) were saying this before the Ole Miss football game even. He supposedly has a chance maybe to make the Olympics in a couple of years.

I wasn't aware of that.

I do believe that he can be an outstanding track athlete. Maybe his decision was best for everyone.

Who do you think our starting WRs will be? Who would have taken Wilder's position?

How is deciding to leave the football team NOT a "leave the football team decision"? I understand that he can make a career for a few years running track, but he is leaving the football team. And please do me a favor, next time you know something but can't tell what you know, don't tell us that you know.
