I defy you to produce anyone, anywhere who wants to see 6-6 <font color="#046bca">Mississippi State</font> square off against 6-6 <font color="#046bca">Wake Forest</font> on Dec. 30, including Mississippi State and Wake Forest fans. The Demon Deacons dropped four of their last five, capped by a 41-7 collapse against <font color="#046bca">Vanderbilt</font> in the season finale; the Bulldogs struggled through a 2-6 disappointment in SEC play and count an overtime escape against <font color="#046bca">Louisiana Tech</font> as their best win of the year. More than any other, this game exists entirely for the sake of its own existence.</p>

I'm usually a glass half empty guy, but when looking at our season people have to realize a few things.
1) We played Bama and LSU closer than any other teams on their schedule.
2) we were literally two plays from finishing 8-4
3) every one of our six losses came to a team currently ranked in the top 25.

This guy is an idiot. When you look at our schedule and results, I would bet that this 6-6 MSU team would destroy most teams headed to bowls that are 8-4.

"including MSU fans and WF fans" to "excluding MSU fans and WF fans" then I could pretty much agree with the rest of his statement. Doubt many people outside of our 2 fanbases will have this game marked down as must see television. Might have been nice if he would have noted that our 6 SEC losses all came to teams currently in the BCS top 25 but hey, if we had taken care of business we still would have won 1 or 2 of those.

At Auburn, we were one play from tying. Then we would have had to beat them in overtime..... in their stadium. Not an easy task.

Against South Carolina, we were one play from holding them to a chip shot field goal, which would have tied the game. The remainder, after a tie, would have been a toss up.

we were 2 plays away from winning or inevitably losing. Mullen did go on record as to saying he would have gone for 2 had Relf made it in. Overtime was not happening that game.

And let's totally ignore the fact that we were "one play away" from losing to Louisiana Tech.<div>

and completely ignore the ones we almost lost. Not just our fanbase, but everywhere. The bottom line is last year we were 3-2 in close games and this year we were 1-2. We could just as easily have gone 7-5 in both regular seasons instead of 8-4 in one and 6-6 in the other. But we finished within 1/2 game of where we "should" have finished both seasons.

But I would say that they Auburn game wasn't really a coinflip at the end. We had to score twice from short yardage to win. If we have a 50/50 shot each time, then there's a 25% we win. <div>

if we didn't complete that first pass play in OT we would've lost. That simply isn't even close to being true. We also forced a turnover on the other end so basically any score would've won the game for us.

I completely get the La. Tech argument. As for the two plays, I don't understand why everyone uses the last play at Auburn as that "one play." To me the obvious "one play" from the Auburn game is the ******** first down call when they were clearly an inch short. That play changed the entire game, and probably our entire season. As for USCe, the prayer throw to Jeffery was absolutely that "one play." If we defend that pass, USCe kicks a field goal and then all we need is a field goal to win, instead of having to try to score a TD.
So we were most definitely two plays from being 8-4, but I also understand that we were one play from being 5-7.

There were other game changing plays in that game earlier. But my main point was that in close games everyone's record will trend towards .500. For example, Nick Saban's record at Alabama is 54-12. But in games decided by 7 points or less, he's 8-8. We've played 11 close games since Mullen's been here and he's 5-6 in them. We can look at all the woulda, coulda, shoulda's we want to in those 6 losses, but at the end of the day, Mullen's record is right where it deserves to be.

they practically allowed us to go into overtime. They were in good position to get a field goal to win the game and we would have lost. There shouldn't be any question to that.

In my words, "This year, it is enough for me."

I will make the drive and be in my seat for the game. I would lke to be at the sugar bowl, but have no desire to watch the teams who earned that game.

We are MSU and the MCB is our game this year. I for one am very happy they have that bowl game and invited us to be there. I will have just as much fun watching it as I would if we were im Atlanta, or Dallas or New Orleans. Hopefully the team will want more than Nashville Next year, and want it badly enough to beat a few more teams than 6/6.

but the main point is that we were really f-ing close to being 8-4. If you cant acknowledge that, you are an idiot. Two plays is definitely something that can never be proven because of the "what if" nature of it. However, the biggest FAIL in this thread is those of you who fail to acknowledge that we were a gnats dick away from being 8-4.

I will not acknowledge that we were really close to 8-4. We were quite close to 7-5 and had a shot at 8-4. Also, we were very close to 5-7. We were certainly far closer to 5-7 than 8-4.
