Would like to see him go as Miss State has continually been a solid foe as our permanent west opponent.

Would be a good move. Ole Miss is on the upswing and it's too tough there in the West. Miami would be an easier road to a conference championship and playoff. He's a good coach.
Lateral move at best.
Totally agree...that game used to be a toss up for UK to win. Since Mullen has been there, it's been a loss and most years they hammer UK pretty soundly. Would be great for Uk to see Mullen move on from MSU.agree with OP - the sooner he leaves the better for us. He's a great coach.

WAYYYYYYYY easier to get top level kids to come to Miami as opposed to freaking Starkville.
Not to mention they are all within about 3 hours in every direction of the school.

Not even close. Miami is a better job. A lot easier to recruit. Don't have to get beat up in the SEC west. And it's more of traditional power that would be easier to sell.Lateral move at best.
Then why have they been so mediocre for so long? They had a decent run with Howard, Johnson and Davis, but for most of their history, they've been pretty common.
Mullen is making >$4MM per year. Unless UM is going to $5MM, lateral move at best.
Instead of hoping that Mullen leaves so we can squeak by a win how about we hold our own program to some higher standards and go out and hire a good coach and athletics director. We shouldn't have to hope for a coach to leave a school like Miss State so that they're terrible enough to beat. We should set some standards for ourselves and try to catch up with the top instead of always thinking that the only way we can win is for the top teams to get worse. Where do you think that kind of attitude is going to get this program in the long run? Probably exactly where we're at

It's an easier path to the top. Its not always about the money.
What kind of history does Miss St have? How many conf and NC do they have? Miami is prob the most fertile recruiting ground in the country.
Absolutely! He is 7-0 vs UK. He has done a great job at MSU and will quite likely be hard for them to replace...they have not always been as good as they are now.agree with OP - the sooner he leaves the better for us. He's a great coach.
Surprised me too DA, from the standpoint that he seemed to truly have a love affair going there with the fans and liked his job. But I think as some others have said, the daunting task of competing in the SEC west is the biggest factor in him wanting to look around. He's done a great job and the people like him, but losing to Ole Miss and looking up at Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M, Ole Miss can take the luster off all of that pretty quick. This surprises me.
If he's looking for an easier path, he should push for UGA. There is no weaker P5 division than the SECE.
They play their games in a stadium 40 miles from campus in an event city that if they care about sports it is professional. The most overrated job in the country in my opinion
Mullen interviewing with Miami could also be a ploy to squeeze more money out of MSU. It happens all the time.
Yep Georgia would also be a step up. I don't think the folks at Georgia are focusing on him however. If he's looking for an easier path, he should push for UGA. There is no weaker P5 division than the SECE.

Mrs. Bryant, Mary Harmon, wasn't exactly pleased to find herself in College Station, TX after living in Lexington.Moving from Starkville to Miami wouldn't exactly be "lateral". Just ask Mrs. Mullen,
Most underrated job in country IMO. I mean you could fall out of bed an recruit a NC team within in 2 years. They play their games in a stadium 40 miles from campus in an event city that if they care about sports it is professional. The most overrated job in the country in my opinion
Going from Starkville MS to Miami, FL would NEVER bbe considered a lateral move. Just saying. Then why have they been so mediocre for so long? They had a decent run with Howard, Johnson and Davis, but for most of their history, they've been pretty common.

Hell we ought to be interviewing Mullen.Would like to see him go as Miss State has continually been a solid foe as our permanent west opponent.
