On incoming freshman WR Chad Bumphis, who Mullen was recruiting at UF: "I think he was the first recruit I called when I got the job here. … That was a huge recruit for us, but I know also with Chad coming in, we're going to try to accelerate that curve, because he's an athlete that has a lot of different skills."

What is this acceleration you speak of? Is it legal to try to hurry up and win? Tell us more.

.........only we too had a faux national championship tradition and an annual air of overhyped commercialism, then maybe we could actually get away with trying to win some games in football.

I don't know what curve Mullen's going to put him on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some reps at QB, given how they're running Relf during the spring practices.

He said that Coach has been calling him about the receiver situation. I assume the acceleration in the learning curve, probably telling him what to work on so he will be ready in the fall.

...Bumphis is just one of several true freshmen that are going to "accelerate that curve."

Mullen has no choice.

Brandon Heavens, Chris Smith, Mardrecas Hood, and Johnathan Banks could all see significant playing time at WR as true freshman, along with Bumphis who I think is guaranteed significant playing time. Our lack of depth at that position going into a new year with a new spread offense is very depressing.

is that Ricco Sanders will probably qualify. That will add some huge speed to our offense. He's a WR that scout clocked at a 4.36 40. Rivals has him at a 4.35 40. He had offers from Georgia, Florida, MSU, Clemson, Florida State and Auburn. Even though these guys are freshmen, Bumphis, Sanders, Perkins, Heavens and Thames give us really good speed and play making ability. I've also heard through the grapevine that Dennis Thames will first begin playing on offense rather than free safety as previously thought.

I didnt think there was any chance of him qualifying. If he does, I will feel much better at WR. I like him a lot, and his video is very impressive. A WR core that consisted of Delmon, Bumphis, Wilder, McRae, Sanders, Smith, Davis, Heavens, Hood, and Banks isnt too terrible. I think we can manage to get things done with a group like that. I'm not sure how I feel about Thames moving. I really like the thought of him playing at SS.

It probably wont equate into a great year this year, but down the line it could be very good. Look at Orgeron's first couple of years with all the freshman that played and then the benefits that had last year.</p>

is that all their legions talk about how stupid Orgeron was as a coach, when in reality, the talent was what won them some games last year. They think it's ALL on Nutt, but fact of the matter is, those young players were a year older + Jevan Snead (Orgeron recruit), and that put them over the top. Remember they almost beat Florida the year before too when Florida was asleep. And let's don't play around, Florida was asleep last year too. But one big win can parlay into others. The extra year of maturity and talent got them over the hump. Orgeron might not have pulled off 8 wins and a Cotton Bowl win, especially in convincing fashion, but he'd have gotten them to a bowl. Bruiser was right about that part, and I was wrong. It's easy to misjudge things after a glaring coaching blunder like Orgeron made in the '07 Egg Bowl. It's easy to call him stupid and not look at the big picture.

The old saying is correct: A good coach with good players will win championships, a bad coach with good players will win games, but a good coach and bad players will get your *** beat. That's why good coaches have to give up a few years to get good players in there. Ole Miss didn't give Orgeron time to reap the benefits of what he built, but it just happened to work out for them because a proven winner fell in their lap. I know they will not admit this, but it's so obviously true.

Croom was much worse for MSU than Orgeron was for Ole Miss simply because one was a lazy recruiter and the other was a relentless recruiter.

OM didn't jump his tail for recruiting, it was for game day decisions (EB 07). Only O the Coach can run a close 2nd to the Croominator to poor game decisions.

If OM had given O the Coach another chance, the UF game would have been lost and perhaps others.

Vandy and WF wouldn't have been near as close.

So give Nutt some props taking the O talent and running with it.

Last year's EB was such a stark contrast in talent and coaching.

That comes from Paul Jones himself - about 10 minutes ago - wow, i wish b/c that guy has tremendous talent.

The good thing is - if he does qualify for prep school, we of course get him for 4 years, vs. 2.

The only thing that is a given when you post is that it is going to be ignorant and in most cases just idiotic.

And it wasn't only game day decisions...

It was public relations
It was ridiculously long full contact practices in the last weeks of the season
It was players, coaches, admins, etc who hated dealing with him
It was stolen radios and pillows
It was players not going to class
It was destroyed hotel rooms
It was poor personnel choices
It was poor schemes
It was no improvement from game one to game twelve
It was the revolving door of assistants

There were plenty of reasons to dismiss Orgeron.
