Dan Mullen speech

Expressed anger towards students for leaving early. Emphasized how important the cowbell is to the university, but insisted that yelling will be more beneficial towards the team than cowbelling during big defensive plays. Took some cheap shots as Ole Miss. Pretty good speech overall, I think it may make a difference in attitudes.

Man you can walk the walk but you better walk the walk.... I hope our Offense and Defense steps it up a little as we move back into these SEC games. Because Ole Miss will be playing for a bowl booth when we meet them. The others will be playing for spots as well. Better make those throws and make those tackles.......

and let us worry about yelling and cheering. If he had put abetter product on the field against a lowly CUSA foe, maybe the students would have stayed. When you have piss poor on field performance you can't expect excellent performance from the student section. Personally, that game pissed me off from the first time we had the ball.

This is why we have maybe the worst fan base in the entire free world. Go back to your Madden game.

Mullen understands how much cowbells means to MSU fans, of course. As he told us, “We’ve got to do a good job of keeping within the conference rules that they set up so we can keep one of college football’s great traditions. That’s what makes college football so special. Dotting the ‘i’ at Ohio State, all the different things that you have that make college football special, the cowbell’s one of them, and we’ve just got to respect the bell so we can keep that tradition alive.”

He then somehow found his way to this: “One you’re a Bulldog, you’re always a Bulldog. That’s your allegiance. Pro football, guys jump and change teams. Most schools don’t have free agency in college football – I can’t say all, but most don’t have free agency in college football. That’s what makes it special is your allegiance to your school.”

Wonder who ol' Dan was referencing there?

And, specifically, in this case, college football and the duties, responsibilities, and roles of the head football coach.

Having said that, please apply for an athletic internship at any of the other SEC-W schools to share your wisdom and insight, so that your ingenuity can be taken advantage of by them.

we won the game, it was our 6th win of the year.....how many years have we been able to say that? seems like we finally have a good year and people like you think that if we don't blow a team out then the team isn't worth your support.....i really hope you aren't representative of our fanbase

I don't know where to start with this comment. It is embarrasing to me as an alum that our students won't stay and support the teamduring a game where we needed an emotional lift afterthe big win in Gainesville. The students and fans are supposed to SUPPORT the team, not leave because they aren't being sufficiently entertained. Apparently Dan needs to teach our students how to be supportive in addition to coaching the team.

Especially after he and Stricklin kissed the students' asses for selling out their ticket allotment so fast. The students "support" at the Alcorn game and now the UAB game was pitiful.

but we're all worried about Dan leaving at some point, and if/when he does, I don't think it will be because of the money. But it's much more likely because of stuff like our fans leaving games early and not selling out games when tickets are available.

Thing is, Dan has done his job or is doing it. We're winning despite the fact that we have very limited talent on offense, the fact that we have a QB that can't hit the broadside of a barn, unless he's trying to hit a cow standing beside the barn and a LOT of freshmen and sophomore football players. The man is recruiting well, our attendance is up, people are excited about MSU football, and he has done a LOT of fan friendly stuff such as bringing back maroon helmets, supporting the cowbell and not kissing Bear Bryant's ***.

Now it's time for our fans to do our job. Are we serious about football or not? Or do we just want to hang out in the Junction? Or do we want to hunt deer?

I think we finally have the coach that can win and build something long term and we won't have to debate about whether we are in good shape or not once he leaves. But Dan has done his job. We fans have to do our part.

The ONLY criticism I would have about the admisitration and the games against lesser opponents- they have to do a better job of tying something with that game to make sure people come. People aren't going to go watch JSU/Alcorn/Valley because of some mythical rivalry. Make a "parent's day" game, maybe have a military day game, opening day- something. I think they did well with homecoming and 4H day against UAB, and we had the 4th largest crowd in school history. Issue there was the students leaving- I assume to go to parties. I guess the best thing to do there is get with the Panhellenic Association/SA and say- "No parties start until the game is over". And I'm really talking more about the Alcorn game in this paragraph than anything.

The guy has an intensity that I have never seen at MSU. The fact that he had a talk like this with the students completely blows me away. I hope he stays around for a long time.

let's recap:
8 straight sellouts, coming behind a decade of losing.
broke season ticket sales record two years straight
sold all season tickets this year
put 30K in the stands. for the spring game. Twice.
travel well
and watch what happens when it's determined what bowl we're going to.

So, while we may or may not end up selling out UK, and I'm guessing we do, I think that State fans have done a helluva lot to get this thing going Dan's way.

Ask South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama how many sellouts in a row they've had. That's how it's done. We can't quit now - that's the MSU (of old) way of thinking. We need to quit thinking of what we've already done and start thinking about how we can improve on that.

And, sorry pal, but you can't compare us to Auburn and Alabama right now and I hope I don't have to go into all the reasons why. Anybody who watched State football from 01-08 should realize that this fan base selling out almost all its home games in the last two years is a big step forward.

See my list. We've been doing our part, largely, which is buying tickets, showing up, being at the spring game, all the things we've been asked to do.

Should we be satisfied? No. I think we should start expansion the day after the season. But I think it's ridiculous to whine about State fans not "doing their part" because there are 2k tickets left to the UK game, which will all likely be sold before kickoff.

And don't tell me about the "old" way of thinking. I'm at every home game and one road game.
