Danny and his wife Clare came back to Rutgers for the first time since he transferred to Oakland this season as our guests at the Michigan game. His passing is a true shock. Janet and I valued he and his family as our own. RIP Stradt! You will be missed!

Dan posted this (identified as five months ago) on his LinkedIn:

I have debated with myself about posting this because I am not someone who always shares every aspect of my life on social media. However, because I want to get out of my mold and I'm trying to get comfortable being uncomfortable here goes... This past weekend I had some pretty scary health news. I went into the ER with some chest/back pain, shortness of breath and nausea. I was immediately hooked up to an EKG machine and the doctor told my wife that I was, in that current moment, having a heart attack. Now, this is something that shocked the ever-loving life out of me. I am a former D1 athlete, I am (somewhat) healthy, and I have NEVER had health issues in my life! I was rushed to another hospital where they could put a heart catheter in me and check to see where the blockages were. I don't say this a lot... I was scared. A million thoughts run through your head at a time like that. What's going to happen to me? Will everything be, ok? Will I see the inside of the home we're building? Despite all sorts of tests (EKG, echo cardiogram, CT scan, ultrasound, heart catheter) the doctors could not find a darn thing wrong with my heart and one nurse said it was a "freak occurrence". Now, why am I sharing this on #LinkedIn? Well, the first is to give a shoutout to the team Henry Ford Health they were awesome, especially my nurses. Secondly, to bring to light the fact that nothing is guaranteed or certain in life. So, you need to go out and do that thing you've been putting off, travel to another country, even if you don't speak the language, tell your loved ones you love them.... A LOT. Next is to give a giant thank you to my team at University of Rochester, they were in constant contact with me and definitely put my mind at ease that they were behind me and that I could rest as long as I needed... definitely a great employer to work for! And lastly, I wanted to show you what a great support system can do and help you with. Mine was and always will be my wife, Clare Waterstradt, MA, LLPC, she was there explaining everything the doctors said, reassuring me everything would be ok and taking care of me in general. This was, I believe, the result of multiple things going on in my life, stress being #1. I guess I am writing this to say: focus on life, because work will always be there. I try to write motivational and inspirational posts to push everyone to keep going. And this is a case and point example.... I WILL recover from this; I WILL keep growing in my data career and I WILL continue to focus on the most important things in my life! I hope that everyone has a great Friday and as my favorite TV character of all time, Michael Scott, said, "I'll catch you on the flippity flip!" #life #data #dataanalytics #dataanalyst #keeppushingforward #motivation #mywhy #mysupportsystem #health #thankyou #career #hospital #help

Dan was a really nice guy who gave us everything he had whenever he was on the court. My thoughts and prayers are out to him, his wife and his entire family.

So terrible. You realize 40 isn’t that young anymore. Rest in Peace, feel awful for his wife and kids.

Thank you for posting.

Any idea which game he came to? Hope it was a good one

He and his wife were our guests at the Michigan game. Photo of us together on my Facebook page. Danny and I had stayed in close contact over the years...
