Damn, that's tough. But they knew the job was dangerous when they took it. They didn't finish the race. Called it a season.

He lived in St Pete and came by my wife's restaurant a few months back to be a guest speaker for a private conference the restaurant was hosting. A really super nice guy. Terrible thing to hear.

It's always the super nice people who die, while Keith Olbermann, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Rahm Emanuel are still wasting oxygen.

She and her husband got to sit in the pits with his team here a couple of times. He has lots of friends here and was alsways held in high regard. Odd reasons for him to be in this race. Having lived in Indianapolis and followed Indy Car since I was a kid on the radio, yes I remember Jimmy Clark winning, I have to wonder why they think they can make open wheeled cars get close like NASCAR. The management need to rethink the future of this form of racing.

If some folks remember... they had to suspend the first race for indycar at Texas due to the G forces in the turns causing drivers to nearly black out. Texas is 1.5 miles long and 24 degrees in the turns. Las Vegas is 1.5 miles and about 20 or 21 degrees. One has to wonder if that is a factor with the one that started the chain reaction. It may be possible that the last Indycar race has just been held on a fast tri-oval.

I was reading where some of the drivers were complaining about high speeds prior to the race - in the range of 220-225 mph. I couldn't imagine hitting a wall that fast, especially airborne.

I can't believe that Wheldon was the only one that was killed. As soon as the chain reaction started, all I saw were 5-6 fireballs that used to be cars flying through the air at 200 mph.

way to be mature guys. not anything political about the thread then mutt start lamenting how the good die while liberal politicians and talking heads live. why even make that post mutt? if you wanna bring politics into the thread, at least mention ******** on both sides of the spectrum instead of coming across as a petty biased *****.

take off your GOP blinders and realize the first comparison was made by mutt, who threw keith olberman and rahm emanuel in with fidel and hugo.<div>
</div><div>how can you chastise the response while letting the more direct and initial comparison slip by?</div>

Looks like the car rolled in such a way that the cockpit hit directly into a fence pole. I heard that it shattered his helmet. They're going to have to come up with some way of removing the hazard from the catch fence without exposing the crowd to danger. They already made the wall much safer.

And, again. If you want to take sports topics and make them political about how liberals/democrats are the only idiots in politics, you are far more stupid than I thought GOP/conservatives were
