There's going to be an interesting 8-1/7-2 matchup with Huntley. Also an interesting 8-1/6-3 game with Warren. Some favorites could be sitting at home in rd 2.

The unenviable NV position last year where a single loss bought you a GW in Round 1.

GW might end up being a 7-2 road team in Week 1 of 8A. If DGS and Eville can both pick up 5 wins, GW might end up in 7A.

Huntley is my dark horse in 8A. Thought really highly of those guys coming in and don't see anything that has changed my mind. They will be a very tough out.

Sorry, I have my homer glasses on. The single most unenviable position is drawing LA as a 1 loss, low opponent victory seed. There is going to be a great Round 2 game at H-F or LWE against LA.

There will be fewer undefeateds this year but still plenty of tough outs coming in with a single loss. I count Huntley, LA, MS, NC, NV, Stevie and loser of LWE/H-F as really tough 1 loss teams that might be on the road in Round 2. Crazy how many top seeds might be on the road in Round 3 after the above teams win on the road.

E'ville will most likely have 6 wins. You can count them making the playoffs.

GW needs Eville + 1 to get pushed down to 7A. Eville in pushes out PN, so I need another big team (DGS) to push into 8A

WV might be able to make a push that would help GW into 7A. However to do so they need to stop turning the ball over (minus 2 in turnovers again last week against a bad Metea team. Plus two TDs called back - one legit, one a ref mistake on a phantom man down field call. Can't do that against good teams and expect to win). They need to win 3 of their next 4 games (WWS, LWC,NN,WN)

WWS - a "good" 0-5 team. This is a must win game to get to 3-3

LWC - sounds like WV will need to play a mistake free game and play like they did in the first half of the GBN game to have a shot.

NN - I don't think this is a good match up for Waubonsie unless the coaches get the right mix on the DLine to put semi consistent pressure on the QB with just rushing 4. NC killed us with the pass with over 300 yards and 4 TDs.

WN - this is a good match up for Waubonsie. WAubonsie is very stout defending against the run. WV has run the ball on everyone this year, should be a slugfest and a tightly contested game expecially if both teams need to win to get in like last year.

Check back in two weeks captn! Should know by then if WV can make a run or not!!

Didn't want to push WV. Just not sure they can pull off two out of those last three now that LWC has shown themselves to be significantly capable. Take care of WWS and get through LWC and I will start to get excited. Best of luck to WV. Tough schedule out there this year.

Thx! Agree with you on LWC and NN. They must win one of those two and take care of business against both Wheaton's - which is no small task. Uphill battle for sure especillay with turning the ball over as much as we do.

VD21,

I wasn't at the game. My nephew plays Freshman ball and my brother was there. Was informed the Dline played pretty well. I guess there's a "rotation" going that seems to work. 2 more kids have been getting playing time and contributing. Big boys need the rest (trust me I was one of them a long time ago).

Problems I'm hearing is turnovers. Putting teams on short field.

Don't sleep on Oswego, side note !

I've got North taking them down in the Civil War.

North gets beat up pretty bad going HC, GW, OPRF then LT before getting to South. If they run that gauntlet and stay healthy enough to beat South, hats off. South comes into that game off AT, Morton and Leyden. Also, the game is at South.

DGS has played two common opponents as GBW with similar scores and played OPRF tough. I think they get to 5 beating Morton Leyden and the vermin North of 63rd.

Yeah turnovers are killing us along with stupid 15 yard penalties. Another minus 2 in the Turnover column against Metea and two TDs called back. Luckily they are bad so it didn't matter but do that against WN or NN and it's another loss.

I was in China but I watched the game streaming on NCTV. It was super hot and yes they finally had a few more guys rotating in on the DLine to keep them fresher. They have been very stout against the run in every game since they made a couple changes after the Lake Park game. Only major DLine issue is getting some consistent pressure on the QB from the front four. Some of that was being gassed, but I think some of it is not utilizing a speed rush guy on the end to rotate in against teams that throw a lot (naperville Central or North for example) and/or in long down and distance passing situations. If they start doing that for the North game - watch out!! If they don't do it - Drake Davis and his WR buddy win the game for them in two weeks.

Barrington. Though I don’t think they’ll be a dark horse after Thursday

They (Barrington) already seem to be getting a ton of respect - just like last year.

I expect both Palatine and Barrington to make a good showing this year... I hope the IHSA can continue to avoid the 1st/2nd round conference rematches that they used to seem to enjoy.

I disagree about the conference rematches, I don't like them, but the seedings should shake out the way the seedings shake out. I prefer to see new matchups more than the next man, but not enough to start arbitrarily moving teams.

Seeding 1-32 Fixed that for 8A and 7A.

If a conference has 5 teams in the playoffs in a 32 team field and most are 8A - the odds of a rematch is pretty damn high that somewhere in the playoffs in round one or two that there will be a conference rematch. Where's a math teacher when you need one!

They had a policy of trying to avoid conference rematches in rd 1 even with 1-32. I think I recall once where they swapped two teams with the same record to avoid this.

Are you old schooling me? I've never heard of any seed being moved due to conf affiliation since 1-32 came in a few years ago.

Do you have any documentation of your position?

I wish. This was probably before the 2010 season. For some reason I am feeling like it involved LWC. Someone else can chime in if they remember.

Imagine the contortions involved with seeding an all Private playoff class, especially the larger class which would be CCL-ESCC bingo.

No one will sleep in LWC now. My fever dream is for WV to make 8A field, push GW down to 7A where they end up #13 seed in Soucie's brackets and then beat Fenwick to set up a Round 2 match up between LWC and GW.

That scenario would have teams coached by Hetlet and his only real protege' head coaching, Jeremy Cordell. Cordell was Hetlet's DC afew years back before he left to GS then LWC. He would remember his days practicing against Sig's offense with both teams running similar defenses. Great story line for this game if it happens.

And to stay on thread, I agree LWC is a great pick for Dark Horse

Gotta be Stevenson. They lost that one to the Muskegon Big Reds 28-7.

If you look in MaxPreps, Muskegon's other wins are :

56-0
68-0
63-14
61-0
70-0

28-7 looks like a moral victory compared to that!
