Let's forget Arizona till Saturday. Davidson won their postseason tourney. Played their way in. Now we are looking at that 5/12 jinx in round 1. Looking past will get us gone.
I'm old enough to remember teams named MTSU and UAB that ended far, far, far more experienced UK team hopes.

I’m not on the team, so me looking ahead won’t matter. With that said, UK will be playing Arizona on Saturday.

My biggest memory of Davidson College was when we played them in the NCAA Tournament in 1986 at the Charlotte Coliseum. We drove to Charlotte and got tickets right in the middle of their student section. Before the game they unrolled a big banner that said "We are the real Wildcats, kickin *** and taking names". The first 5 or 6 minutes they were ahead and the place was going crazy and my friend and I were getting it from all sides and then James Blackmon made a steal and dunked over two Davidson players and there wasn't a sound made the rest of the night...it was all Cats after that.

They lost 85-75 to UNC, and 80-60 to Virginia. They won 2/3 against St. Bonaventure...only loss was a 117-113 game. Split with Rhode Island. It's obvious they're a capable team.

We should win, but I always worry about that first tourney game with a very young team.

It’s like Cal said if they get hot and start making a ton of 3’s which they’ve done we could lose. It’s happened to us before. So it’s his job to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Actually, this doesn't look like it will be that close a contest. This is the type of team that PJ had a field day with. PJ struggles against big physical interior players like Tenn but I don't see that ability with Davidson. Assuming that our other players rotations stay pretty much now as in the SEC tourney, I would put Davidson on a level of Georgia. Heck this team wasn't even going to be in the tournament until their end win when Rhode Island missed their final shot. They were headed to the NIT. Only if Kentucky reverts to unforced turn-over city do I see it being a real challenge. In fact, in some ways I don't like this match-up because what will come easier against them will be difficult against Arizona. So this game doesn't prepare us for Arizona. That will be an entirely different type of game.

They are tall but slow. It's liable to be close at halftime but our athletes will take over in the 2nd half. They have never experienced our length or speed. They are horrible at rebounding. They could win I guess but I'm expecting to be up by around 20 at some point.

Any team that's made 26 three's in a single game has to be a cause for concern. If we defend the perimeter we should win by double digits but if not it could be down to the wire.

The 1986 team really overachieved as they were undersized and lacked outside shooting. I know it's hard to admit for a lot of fans but Eddie Sutton probably did his best coaching ever with that team. As I recall, they weren't even ranked in the Top 20 at the beginning of the season but came within a game of the Final Four.

Probably would have made it if we didn't have to play LSU 8 times that year. While we are talking Davidson, name a Davidson all-american not named Curry(I can name at least one)

Fred Hetzel, Mike Maloy (remember him well) and Dick Snyder. Hetzel and Snyder were all-Americans in the mid-60's.

They don’t rebound well, they don’t defend well. They play slow and also have a couple really good offensive players. Hold them under 12 threes and we win by 10+.

I heard a guy on ESPN radio talk about why he didn't think this will be an upset like many think can happen. He mentioned that their best big man was 6'8 220, but so is about half of our team. They don't offensive rebound which is one of our weaknesses they won't exploit. They don't force turnovers which will help us, minus the unforced ones we normally have. So most of our weaknesses aren't their strengths. This could actually be a perfect matchup for us.

Fred Hetzel was the one I was thinking, thought he might be too obscure for anyone to remember.Didn't he have some off court or behavior issues somewhere along the way?

Davidson actually does rebound on the defensive end well. I think they are top 20 nationally in defensive rebound percentage.

And offensive rebounding is one of our strengths. So it's possible they could take that away and if we're not making shots that would be enough to make the game close but Davidson isn't built to score on us either.

they need us to have a bad day shooting the ball or need us to settle. We're one of the bottom teams in the country in 3pt fga attempts so settling is unlikely.

We’ve mostly been arguing that Kentucky is a 4 seed or better. We just beat 3 seed Tennessee. As long as our guys calm down and play, I like our chances.

This is my concern. If we play to their level and they hit the three, it could be an awful way to end the season after just winning the SEC tournament.

That was about the time I started watching College Basketball and we got quite a few of the Davidson games on the old Jefferson Pilot network. Can't remember any specifics but the Davidson player that sticks out in my mind is Mike Maloy. Davidson had some decent teams back then.

Go watch the Davidson and rhode island game that was on same time as our game sunday then ask yourself which fan base should worry
If you're not concerned about this game then you know absolutely nothing about basketball. Never, never underestimate your opponent and keep in mind that this is the very first NCAA game for 90% of the team. I guess you forgot about NKU giving us all we could handle last season. I doubt if you were even around to witness the upsets in the past against UAB and Middle Tennessee. And if you recall, Princeton almost beat us in 2010.

What im saying is Davidson should be concerned....they havent played against athletes like ours...im tired of our fans taking the scared approach every time we play....Davidson should be the worriers not us

Yes, you are correct but historically the 12-5 matchup is the one with the most upsets. I just hope that our guys don't take this team lightly. We're only a 5.5 point favorite which is concerning in itself. As we all know, at times you could take someone off an elementary school team and they would light up UK as we've seen in the past. Guard the three and we win by double digits; if not it could be a struggle.

I do think we win but I have a feeling it won't be by more than ten points. Hope it's a blowout but I just don't know how we'll react.
