IMO, it hasn't been great since 2009 and needs to be done away with. What say the pack?

the dpr used to be badass, but ever since that video came out with the roadrunners/orientation people doing it, its lost its luster BIGTIME. instructing a room full of white kids and parents from an overweight white college student with a swoop haircut really deconstructed the coolness of the dpr in my mind. at times, the dpr looked forced on the field. back in the day, it used to get everyone jacked as ****, and knowing the sec made moves to have it taken off the field and penalize it made it a bad boy kinda thing. now, its just a half-hearted throwback full of sadness. in its prime, it was a weapon....now, its a forced, tired display of uncoordinated misery. its sad how it lost its swagger, but it used to be the ****.

Lose it. The halfharted manner in which it is performed on the sideline is NOT awe inspiring like it use to be.

I'd like to see us do it more than just the opening kick off. Use it at certain times, like when we take a lead or making a comeback after being down, kinda like Hogan would do his "hulking up".

^^^This. If the team loves it, buys in and does it correctly, then maybe. And yes, I get to define "correctly", possibly with input from BMT since he seems to get it. So, basically they kill unless they put me on payroll as a DPR consultant.

^^ This. I hate to give up one of our best traditions, but at this point, Mullen's guys just don't do it the same as Kenzaki and King Jackie's boys. King Jackie's teams had an element of bad boy that Mullen's don't seem to have. And that's not better or worse, just different. But I just don't think it looks right at this point in time.

I still like who let the dawgs out, especially after close victories.

I think everyone forgets one thing. This was only used by the special teams under Jackie. It's not meant to be done by 300lb lineman. Let it be just for special teams and it will come back to life.

Never noticed Herbstreit calling out the NCAA like that. "They hate all the celebrations; they hate all the fun stuff."

Stay. But I do want it done right. Change when it's done to the first kickoff when we have a lead or something, and only use the ST squad.

That 2009 had a small bit of swagger though, but it was all because of Dixon.

Goat nailed this one. It's all about the leadership on the field that makes the DPR work. If you've got a couple of guys that get into it, the whole joint will go crazy...

I'm sorry -- after 8 years of slow death with one small reprieve(2007 -- when no one really thought we were that good) -- this made me go absolutely crazy. I can't remember for sure, but I think this may have been the first moment that I truly thought "holy ****, we're back". Still gives me chill bumps right now.

It's the LEADERS on this team that have to bring this swag back... There was NO quit and NO back down in that 2009 team -- against the team that was undefeated and had won 2 of the last 3 national titles...

If you look real close in this video, the teams start to part when Aaron Hernandez pulls a hand cannon out of his waistband.

It really does look stupid now. Almost looks as bad as a bunch of middle aged whiteys doing the Harlem Shake or something. The dawg pound rock needs to stay in the 90's with dial-up internet, dad jeans, and boy bands. Us white folks make everything uncool. :)

I was so afraid they were going to do this at my daughter orientation. She would have dropped out then and there. DPR has become a cliche and stupid.

I'd rather the players decide if and when they want to do it

in a moment of spontaneous elation after a big touchdown rather than it being prompted by Chuck Smooth over the loud speakers after we run out from the locker room.

I remember getting chills when the entire West Side did it with the team at the end of the 1999 egg bowl, 17'n magical. It never was the same ever since the band started doing it (2010?) - my god that was awful.

I was at that game and it might've been the best atmosphere at an MSU game that I've ever been too.

Yeah, it stopped being bad *** when the entire team started doing it. I know they can't do it now, but there was no better way to charge the crowd up like when the kickoff team did it on the field before kickoff back in the 90's.
