The Raiola's have always placed their kids in the best place to start and show off... just look at at all the moves Dylan had thorough HS & his Commitments. With Dylan, TJ and Trae coming shortly I think there just isn't a spot where he can shine. I'm sure lengthy discussions with the family, Dylan included directed him to the same conclusion... Hopefully he can go somewhere and have a Great career...
I don't think starting had anything to do with their moves. He was starting in Texas as a sophomore? If protecting his starting role was the goal, why not just stay there?

Hopefully this was a case where he saw 3 guys currently on the roster (including Dylan) that he would be behind - the other two being Lateef and Davila. Trae Taylor coming next year is another guy that is noticeably more highly regarded. So it is reasonable that Dayton realized that his chances of playing were better elsewhere.

Hopefully this means our OLine coach is in line for a big promotion to a front office position....
Lost me with the last line.

You should recruit QBs you think are future starters. Actually, you should do that at every position and let competition determine who does start. I think with the current and future QB room he wasn't in line so it makes sense that he look at other options.
We DO need to keep TJ and Trae Taylor firmly in our grasp.

Why? He might never play. Spend the money on a starting NT and maybe O lineman. We can find a backup QB in the portal if they feel the need. Dayton was a depth piece at best for 2 years. Thomalia would be no different.
Competition breeds excellence

that’s why

Dayton was always a charity case. Even the most willfully ignorant can admit that.

if this is a sign TJ has broken Rhule of his Raiola Stockholm syndrome that is an extremely positive development for the future of this program

Same... They catch a lot of Crap unfortunately, the Ol Man has been instrumental in pushing Nebraska forward for a long time... They have a Love for this school that's for sure. That said, Any good parent will do what's best for their kids and in this case DONU just isn't in the plans for him... I wish the whole family well...
Dom has been a great supporter of NU for decades and his handled the situation about as professionally as anyone could. They’ve given their kids the freedom to make their own decisions and then supported them. Good parents.

You know nothing about Thomalia and his family other than the stat sheet. He’s put up his numbers playing for a recruited all star team against inferior competition.

He would be a fool to not try to find a situation without the kind of intense competition he would face at NU. He would be #3 at best next year and have to battle to ever rise above that. There’s likely a good program where he could be at least #2 the day he stepped on campus.
Any top 25 program in the country is going to have the same level of competition. Unless he wants to go to a mid-major, that's going to be unavoidable.

Have you watched ANY college football and seen any backups? Good heavens. TJ’s performance was probably the best performance by a backup on a P4 team all year. Hell it was better than many of the starters I’ve watched. Dayton could undoubtedly find a solid P4 program where at worst he would be a #2.

hell he is a depth piece at Alabama too. Keelon Russell is redshirting, Austin Mack is only a sophomore. Then they have a 4 star in Trent Seaborn coming in 2027.

Correct, they were in Phoenix, moved to Dallas area to be close to the daughter at TCU. Then moved back to Phoenix when she was finished playing volleyball. He wasn't running from competition. His HS coach was John Kitna.

I suppose if I'm Dayton, I'm looking at TJ and knowing that I might not play for at least three years, and the 2027 QB is apparently some type of savant at the position. So greener pastures probably await.

Does this mean Dylan isn't ruining the program?

Highly doubt this has anything to do with Dylan…I think he’s just not seeing much of a path forward as playing time is concerned.

He’s the 1602 overall prospect in the 2026 class…he knows N is going to be recruiting over his head. Looking for a more realistic path forward, (which is smart on his part).

Think this staff has been humoring him all along, to keep his family/brother happy, & they were betting this would be the eventual outcome. Let the kid come to the realization on his own. Less butt-hurt all around...Well played.

The more I’ve let the shock factor wear off, the more I think this is what’s actually happening.

The bigger question in my mind is if Dylan will stay or hit the portal. He may have questions about his ability to beat out Lateef next fall. That would probably end any realistic shot Dylan would have at the NFL. And for Dylan, it is ALL about the NFL. As things stand right now Dylan has used up two seasons of his college career and is not on track to become a high draft pick. And there are a LOT of teams that will be portal shopping for a QB. LSU for one. Many of the SEC schools need a QB next year. I think there is a good chance he hits the portal. I hope he stays, I like the kid. He came here when he had better offers. He gave making NU relevant again everything he had. He is a great kid and I wish him well no matter what.

Dayton can go to dozens of other programs and not endure the mindless criticism he was already getting as a commit. Seems like a great kid any dad would be proud of.
Which programs would those be? Appalachian State? More freaking gaslighting from you.

god bless the kid but he was offered only for one reason. If his brother aint here, hit the portal for better

Please name all the QBs that were very low ranked out of HS that turned out to be studs

Josh Allen is far and few between. Lamar Jackson’s are a safer bet

I mean why stop there. If he looked low enough I'm sure he could find a spot where he's the starter day 1.

A good point someone brought up is Dylan will have to make the choice very soon. Only one portal in January now. Will he do that with an injured foot?,

Do you watch any college football cause Trinidad Chambliss says hello. Chambliss is easily the best.

dont get me wrong, I love, love TJ but please stop the gaslighting

I assume Rhules comments regarding the influx of roster spending had something to do with it. If you really are going to spend with the big boys, you dont commit your lone QB opening on the roster to the 76th ranked passer coming out of HS.

So Nebraska like. We are so far behind everyone that we are freaking out about stuff that good programs have dealt with for years. Didn't Bama have Hurts, Tua, and Mac Jones all at one time? Husker fans freaking out about if it's possible to keep Raiola and Lateef at the same time. Lol

It's never surprising when everyone comes up with all the wild conspiracies as to Matt Rhule and the Raiola family. Somewhere in the middle there is truth to all of this and the truth will get out soon. I think it will become quite clear this spring what is going on with the QB room, it's not like it's the Warren commission on the JFK assassination or something.
