1. MSU had nothing to with the "timing" of this story. Read Bond's quotes from the interview in Atlanta. The media is driving this story not anyone from MSU. The only reason Bond is talking is because they caught wind of the NCAA interview with him.
2. Kenny Rogers is not a MSU booster. Read his quotes from the ESPN Radio Dallas affiliate. He was at the Egg Bowl because of Cam Newton, not because he's a super fan. Cam introduced Rogers to Coach Mullen. He doesn't sound like a guy close to program; he sounds like a guy using his association w/ MSU from 30 years ago to get close to a blue-chip recruit. People I've talked to who have followed MSU recruiting for decades never heard of the guy until yesterday.
3. MSU turning in Kenny Rogers into the SEC isn't proof of a "deal gone sour." What kind of bizarro logic is this? The last thing a person or organization who is ingaged in illegal/unethical activities does is go to the authorities. This just opens you up to increased scrutiny. Who the hell does that?

way back in 1983 I think. Smarter than your average football player but no rocket scientist. He would make fun of Elvis Butler in class (who was dumber than your average football player). I think he started a few games his senior year (because we sucked under Bellard after years 2 & 3).

I'm not getting on you but I'm sick of hearing we turned them in. Every Baton Rouge sports show today was asking the question, why we turned them in? And why didn't we come out to the media before we played them? I couldnt get through on the phones but they are as ignorant as everybody else. We saved face and that is all. Multiple news sources, and major world news sources (New York Times) were on the verge of breaking the news and ESPN got Bond to talk. We could have squealed in March, to prevent scam from reaching the field but what happened?

Look my State friends, everyone sort of enjoys watching someone else squirm
because were grateful it's not our team. When it's ours we get literally sick, or at least I do and anything we say has nothing to do with how these things play out.
To hold Dog Fans responsible, or MS for something AU has or has not done is BS at least from my point of view. When I read that Cam's big daddy finished his church renovations 2 months before Auburn started recruiting him I had a huge sigh of relief. That coupled with all of the vetting that has gone on by AU and the ncaa for several months now, and were still playing Cam with the blessing of the ncaa, my wool is coming back nicely............... except for the top of my gd head.

If somebody says State turned AU in, they haven't a clue as to what the 17 they're talking about. It's how Cam ended up at Auburn that counts and nothing more.

Just read that the church renovations was paid for by Cecil's oldest son(minutes from the city council meeting).

Does Cecil Newton not have a (formerly) small business that is now a MUCH LARGER business due to a lot more contracts, now that his son is taking Auburn towards a national championship?

Having business thrown your way is nothing new and it's not illegal. Newton's business would have grown by leaps and bounds in any case. Name recognition alone would have gotten him more business.

If you think I am exaggerating, I have a friend that buys wood. Lots of it for a paper company. In Alabama if you are just a fan of the wrong team certain people over there won't even do business with each other. Imagine if one of them actually had a son that was a potential Heisman candidate.

Personally, I can't imagine not doing business with anyone based on a game.

but every business has OVERHEAD.....(the expenses needed to run said business)......and it takes a little time for even the most successful business to turn a profit. The elder Newton acquired some big moneysupplies to operate his business...and the timing of such acquisitions....throws a bit of smoke upfrom this transaction.

Maybe Auburn is clean of this. All I know is something happen.John Bond has been around Miss State for many manyyears and this is the first time I have heardof himeversaying or doingsomething like this. He has nothing to gain by reporting what was said to him. Nothing! But maybe something to lose like his good faith reputation around MissState. Maybe Cam wanted to go to State but his father wanted him to go to Auburn. Then his father said OK I'll let him go to state but it will cost them some money. State said no so Cam ended up at Auburn. No money asked. Either way Auburn will get hurt by this. The investigation centers around Cam Newton and his dad. Like I said something happen. The NCAA would not be investigating the allegation at this point if they did not think there might be some fire. If Newton asked for money from Miss State he is screwed and will be ineligible to play and if that happen Auburn will vacate every game he has played in. No way shape or form can this be good for Auburn or Newton.

If there was something wrong done it was a one-time payment. The timing of the renovations though fits perfectly with a payment coming from someone for Cam so I'm afraid our Auburn friend is wrong. The only two things that matter in this whole story right now are: 1) The NCAA and the SEC have said that they have credible information that led to an investigation, and 2)The NCAA is still investigating. I do find it interesting that Auburn is choosing it's words VERY carefully. For example MSU released a statement that unequivocally states that we did the right thing and did absolutely nothing wrong. Auburn on the other hand releases a statement saying that Cam is eligible to play. If I were an Auburn fan that would make me a bit nervous, if they did nothing wrong why aren't they saying that? (For an answer to this question see: Pearl, Bruce)

Gonna be a long time before this is figured out though. I think the NCAA will move into questioning the oddly stellar recruiting classes that a 5-19 coach was able to pull to a 5 win team at Auburn. Having Trooper "Money Bags" Taylor on your coaching staff isn't helping to dispel the concerns any either. Auburn may not have done anything wrong but reading between the lines they are certainly tip-toeing through the house like they stole something.

For the record, according to their local newspaper, Cecil hadn't completed construction of the renovations as of May 12, 2010. Evidently they had engineering drawings in hand September 2009.

Did the NCAA even attempt to nail any other players at USC after they had Bush caught red handed ? You know damn well he (Bush) wasn`t the only one on that payroll.

time. Then in July, something surfaced that forced the SEC to turn it over to the NCAA. I want to know what surfaced in July to initiate the NCAA inquiry. The investigation started in late summer, that's what people are missing. Everyone thinks that this is sour grapes, but Bond and the Athletic Department did what they were supposed to do at the time.

Please give AU's explanation of Cecil Newton's admittedlyknowing Rogers for what? 2 years?. Why in the world would they even know him?
