...the issue that decided the game was whether or not cousins got the tip in before the buzzer.

free-throw lane violation -- not called.
clock start delay following missed free throw -- not reviewed.
three second lane violation -- not called.

tip in at the buzzer -- reviewed.

the other items were of no consequence as the favorable path was 2 points FOR kentucky.

I really would have liked Rick to squawk at the refs over the time - didn't appear the ref started the "review" process with the missed free throw. at that point, they'd already looked the other way. in game, could rick have requested a review? i bet he could have done it without being hit with a T. they might have accomodated a request. it seems that the sequence of events in a span of 5.3 seconds (not 4.9) were very costly for one team. if kentucky didn't win today... were they still a number 1 seed? yep.

The game and season are toast.

We should have sunk enough shots, including FTs, that the zebra incompetence was not a factor.

All this season, we have had to play well enough to overcome that incompetence.
Today was no exception, for real.

Bost wasn't inside the lane, but he was inside the 3 point line before the ball hit the rim. Just sayin...what's the penalty when both teams violate the rule? Shoot the free throw over?

He caught the ball and took a quick hop. When Barry fouled him and walked to the bench I think he even said "He walked." Maybe I am wrong, because I have not watched it again, But that's how it looked to me, and naturally none of the talking heads have touched on it.

Section 2. Free-Throw Violation Penalties
Art. 1. When a violation is by the free-thrower only or the free-thrower’s
teammate only, no point shall be scored by that free throw. The ball shall
become dead when the violation occurs. The ball shall be awarded at a
designated spot nearest to where the violation occurred, unless another free
throw is to be awarded.
a. When disconcertion by an opponent is followed by a violation by the
free thrower, a substitute free throw shall be awarded.
Art. 2. When a violation is by the free-thrower’s opponent only:
a. When the try is successful, the goal shall count, and the violation shall
be disregarded.
b. When the try is not successful, the ball shall become dead when the free
throw ends, and a substitute free throw shall be attempted by the same
free-thrower under the same conditions as those for the original free
throw.
Art. 3. When there is a marked-lane space violation by a free-thrower’s
teammate and an opponent:
RULE 9 / VIOLATIONS AND PENALTIES 117
a. When the first violation is by the free-thrower’s teammate, the ball shall
become dead when the violation occurs, no point shall be awarded for that
free throw. When no other free throw is to follow, play shall be resumed
by awarding the ball to the opponent of the team that committed the first
violation at a designated spot nearest to where the violation occurred.
b. When the first violation is by the opponent of the free-thrower’s team
and the try is successful, the goal shall count, and the violation shall be
disregarded. When the try is not successful, the ball shall become dead when
the free throw ends, and a substitute free throw shall be attempted by the
same free-thrower under the same conditions as those for the original free
throw.
Art. 4. When there is a violation, first by the free-thrower’s opponent followed
by a violation of the free-thrower or a free-thrower’s teammate, each team has
violated. A double violation has been committed. No points shall be awarded.
When no other free throw is to follow, play shall be resumed by awarding the
ball to the team entitled to an alternating-possession throw-in at a designated
spot nearest to where the violations occurred.
a. When both offenders are in marked lane spaces, the second violation is
ignored as in Rule 9-2.3.b.
b. When the second violation is by the free thrower or a free thrower’s
teammate, who is behind the free-throw line extended and the three-point
line, both violations are penalized.
c. When an opponent’s fake causes the free thrower or a teammate of the free
thrower to violate, only the fake shall be penalized.
d. When disconcertion by an opponent is followed by a violation by the free
thrower, a substitute free throw shall be awarded.
Art. 5. When there is a simultaneous violation by each team, the ball shall
become dead. No points shall be awarded. When no other free throw is to
follow, play shall be resumed by awarding the ball to the team entitled to
the alternating-possession throw-in at a designated spot nearest to where the
violations occurred, unless another free throw is to be awarded.

You've got an official at half court who's job it is to watch for lane violations at the top of the key. Wall doesn't barely cross the 3 point line. Both feet cross the free throw line before the ball hits the rim. It's not close.

So if I read that correctly it should have been MSU ball. Someone tell Rick not to let Benock throw this one in.

California down 2, shooting the second free throw with about 5 seconds left. The Cal shooter intentionally misses, but steps over the free throw line before the ball hits the rim. Ref calls lane violation and Washington gets the ball. In our game, the lane violation was much more obvious, not only by Wall, but the shooter Bledsoe, who was about two steps over the line before the ball hits the rim. No call. Great job, SEC refs.

though that game was academic by this point. It had happened several times earlier, though, I believe.

that is clearly NOT a lane violation.

you must refer to kentucky rule #23A:

If the game is on the line, and there are free throws, any or all parts of the free throw shooters body can move across the free throw line before the shot is taken.
