The far west can play. Murphy Robbinsville etc were less affected by the storm. They played in the SMC last Friday. The schools affected most are from Waynesville to Marion and north of there. Getting back Buncombe County, Mtn Heritage, Mitchell, Avery etc may be problematic.
To take it a step further, some of these kids are no doubt looking at playing at the next level somewhere. Kinda hard to put stuff on film if there are no more games.
It’s not that far to WCU for Pisgah. Maybe y’all could play there for home playoff games?Haywood County schools are out this week, so both Pisgah and Tuscola. There are rumors floating around but I’ll leave that for another day. The town of Canton is still closed to through traffic for cleanup and Clyde is still in rough shape. Many in our county still do not have internet connectivity and the main server for Haywood County Schools was in one of the buildings that flooded so that is preventing the option to go to remote learning.
Pisgah’s field was destroyed so we would either be road warriors the rest of the year, playing at Bethel Middle, or for playoffs use Tuscola’s field since they don’t use it much for playoffs.. ***Just aggravating the Tuscola folks***.
I agree they shouldn’t cancel. What they should do is take all of the gate money made in the playoffs, minus travel, gas, and food expenses for the teams, and use it for relief supplies for the victims. Win win.
I still think a big thing people are missing here is the ability to get kids safely somewhere to practice and play. There are probably kids that haven't been contacted or heard from yet.
As for WCU, they didn't even have spectators for their home game last week I'm pretty sure.
We all love this game and want the kids to have a chance but in many of these communities football is an after thought right now and will be for some time.

Completely understand and agree with that. For the most affected communities, I mean there is probably little that can be done regarding football in those places, and like you said, it’s an afterthought there anyway. I don’t mean for this to sound insensitive at all because I truly hate it and feel terrible for the people in the affected areas, but I just don’t think the rest of the football playing schools who are able to travel and practice safely (and there are A LOT of them) should have the playoffs taken away. I mean I just don’t see the purpose that would serve if the playoffs can be done safely?
Here is my solution. Push all playoffs back one week, take 64 teams as usual. If there are not enough teams to fill the brackets then give byes to the higher speeds. If it is not possible to move the playoffs back due to logistics, such as availably of championship venues. Then reduce the number of teams to 32. For teams that cannot resume the season, then all their seniors would be granted an extra year of eligibility (but they must stay at that school). Finally, if any seniors want to transfer to another school, then they be granted immediate eligibility.
I agree that the playoffs shouldn't be canceled and it should be modified.
A lot of seniors will be 19 with an extra year. That’s problematic.
Definitely do not support this. How about the Junior class that lost this season and will be seniors next year. The opponent with no "redshirts" going against a school with several.
Feel terrible for the students that are losing their fall sports especially seniors. Felt terrible for the spring sport athletes that lost their season to COVID or the basketballers that lost their state title games.
True, but a relatively sample percentage across the state and it seems like a small thing to help students that have had their life totally upended.
If you break it down and look closely then you will find that the majority of these schools play in the same conferences with each other. Non-conference games would basically have no impact. The most significant impact would be in the playoffs. The vast majority of these schools are not traditional powers in the playoffs. They would make an impact but probably not a major impact.
What plan would you support? Just say, "Sorry kids tough break"?
These kids are not looking to stay another year in high school. They are ready to move on and start their lives.
They don't have to, but let's give them an option. I hope that these schools can be functioning with, at least, online learning by at least January. If so they could hopefully finish online by August and continue their career path
I was replying to the post allowing seniors on teams that would not play any additional games this season to return for another "senior" season.
When a rule is made the ripple effect is often not looked at before the decision is made.
My recommendation would be more likely in allowing them to transfer schools and play immediately if their current school opts out of the remainder of the season.
How about the state house member that pushed out the NCHSAA stating she wanted to give a quarterback that had luekemia another senior season. Why? Because she knows him and his family and he is a great young man. The junior that took his place and was looking forward to his senior season was not thought of. Sets the precedent for future exceptions.
We know what COVID did to college scholarships. With the sixth season less high schoolers were needed on scholarship. High school seniors that were bottom of the FBS ended up at FCS and the player struggling for the FCS went D2. I lived that repeatedly. A player wanted to go to UNC to join his brother was told any year before now you would have an offer from us but not now with the 6th year players and transfer rules.
Well one thing is for sure, we will find out shortly. According to highschoolOT.com the decision will be made by the nchsaa this morning.
