bolden and carey can co-exist...both bigs, both are gonna be in foul trouble a decent amount, both will prob be gassed alot
If early season White returns, he should be our 6th man or even our starting 4 depending on if Hurt comes. We had 8 players avergae double figure minutes this year with Goldwire as the 9th man playing in 35 of the 38 games at 8.6mpg. With Tre returning and the potential of Ellis to be a solid combo guard, I could see Goldwire's role and minutes being about the same.
To me, Baker and White seem like the most likely to not get double digit minutes. White is a senior so maybe he will be like Vrankovic and just stick it out.
Main rotation of 8
Jones
AOC
Moore
Carey
Bolden
Ellis
Hurt
DeLaurier
Will get minutes but probably fewer than 10mpg and may not play every game.
Goldwire
Baker
White

Baker will probably play in most games at around 8mpg. AOC and Moore probably won't command as many minutes as Barrett and Reddish. Carey probably won't get as many minutes as Zion simply because of fatigue and foul trouble. Same with Bolden so that leaves plenty of minutes for Hurt and Javin.

I agree with “most likely” but it ain’t happening!!!!!!!I think White and Jav are the type kids who take a great deal of pride in being co-captains of the nation's top program. See both sticking, w/both Ques/AOC most likely to depart....

I bet you a purplenurple they stay in the circle!Betcha half a dozen pick and rolls Ips!!! OFC
I hate to say it, but yeah I’m ready to move on from Marques. Was it ever explained why he wasn’t a captain along with Javin and Jack?No disrespect to Bolden but I’m ok with him going to the NBA draft. He has shown flashes of superior skill but the flashes of it are purely based around effort. He’s had games where he asserts his physical frame dominantly and snags like Dennis Rodman. Most of the time his rebounding effort makes him look like Lopez brothers. I know he’s had a rough career and been injury plagued annually, I feel for the guy..... But I don’t like half-assed efforts.
And yeah, we do have a ton of depth but we aren’t going to rip a page out of Calipari’s book. It’s going to be a 7/8 man rotation. Going to have some unhappy guys, but when you sign to play for Duke this is what you sign up for. Aces in their places.

Yeah I definitely didn’t think anything public would be said as to why. Just thought maybe there were some rumors. I imagine your explanations were probably the reasons. Not to my knowledge. Coach isn’t going to explain why a player isn’t chosen as one because that’d virtually be talking down on him publicly. Wouldn’t be a good look.... My best guess is the fact that he’s pretty reserved, really has a quiet personality. Doesn’t seem emotional to me. That’s just a guess.

My feelings exactly.I know he played like garbage in the Canadian tour which was a huge disappointment because there was tons of bragging on his summer progress. We had a lot of injuries during that tour too, so it wasn’t like he didn’t have plenty opportunity to make a statement.
I’m just ready to use his scholarship on someone else. It’s been 3 years of disappointments from him. Injuries can set back a player but that’s a crutch because I’ve seen the effort he’s capable of playing with. It’s a shame that he doesn’t. Low motor.
Man i would love to have Bolden back. A senior, who has been through the wars. He was also injured this year, just as he was hitting his midseason stride, and he seems to recover slowly from injuries. Lose Bolden and we are thin in the frontcourt and cannot afford an injury. Younger too. Guess Jack should hit the weightroom and work on his shot. And if Bolden leaves we may need another body like Watford. But I doubt either is an upgrade over a senior Bolden.
I admit a lot of Bolden is "what if." You see little flashes and then it's gone. But Zoubek had a similar 3 year run and then blew up his senior year. I know, the old Zoubek senior year comparson ha. Also Javin tends to, you know, foul a bit.
what drives me crazy with Bolden (other than he is REALLY slow to go up with the ball) is he always settles for the left handed hook with absolutely no arc.
Exactly. And not saying this is the case for Ques specifically but not all classes nor players are the same. Just because someone is a five star in one class doesn’t guarantee production from a five star in another. Some are labeled five stars bc of where their upside is. Others are that good now. Some shock you, some disappoint. It’s not a perfect science, never has been and never will be.If people just got over the fact that he was a 5 star recruit I would guarantee you would feel different. People wanted to see more Vrank this year. Not because he was highly productive but because he was a lowly recruited guy that was serviceable in small spurts. See these guys for what they are and not what they were labeled as.
It’s an individual case here. It’s not about veteran players compared to one and dones. It blows my mind how some can talk about having veterans and breaking away from all the one and dones. And then we have a guy like Ques who has battled injuries and a lot of adversity. Last year he showed tons of improvement and still has a year of eligibility. And some are ready to move on from him. Smh.
Perhaps, but i think it’s a bit shortsighted and you can’t help but see the irony. Ques was solid and then goes down against unc and was never the same. People forget he went down in the wake game prior to that. Unlucky. Having a sophomore Tre defensively at the point and a veteran senior Bolden as the anchor will greatly help those young guys. Especially Hurt who is no defensive stalwart. It’s an individual case here. It’s not about veteran players compared to one and dones.

Doesn’t seem like there will be enough minutes for both Carey and Bolden though. So at this point I’m willing to take my chances with Carey.Perhaps, but i think it’s a bit shortsighted and you can’t help but see the irony. I like Ques, I just think this upcoming season may be shaping up where he is the odd man out. And he also might find that turning pro is in his best interests at this point. If you look at all returning bench players (for arguments sake consider both Ques and Javin bench players because neither solidified themself as the 5 starter) and you look at the entire year and total production. Ques was our biggest asset. And he improved greatly between his sophomore and junior year. I don’t see how anyone would want to move on from that? The kid has accepted every role we have given him and has given it his all. Anyone saying he appears to be going half speed is nuts. His personality is not outgoing, by all accounts he’s very reserved. But I see him giving it his all each time he’s out there.
I was going to comment on the same thing. I had a long post started and deleted it. Told myself I'm not even going to engage in some of this talk. Some peoples mind changes daily or forget what they posted prior. As long as a kid puts on that Duke jersey, I'm with him from day one until he takes it off. I'm a proud Die hard Duke fan growing up in NC, and the day I say I'm ready to move on from a player, or dog a player out, then I'll turn in my Duke fan card. Grown men behind a keyboard, with probably no basketball skills to save their lives are always the most critical. It blows my mind how some can talk about having veterans and breaking away from all the one and dones. And then we have a guy like Ques who has battled injuries and a lot of adversity. Last year he showed tons of improvement and still has a year of eligibility. And some are ready to move on from him.
