Thames, a 5-foot-11 defensive back from Louisville, appears in The Neshoba Democrat's Wednesday listing of the Neshoba County jail docket as charged with "public intoxication-other substance." Other substance? Any guesses?

More on Thames Arrest
by bradlocke Inside Mississippi State Sports47 mins 10 secs ago | 134 views | 1 | 0 | | | permalink
Here's what I've learned about the arrest of Mississippi State football signee Dennis Thames, according to information from the Neshoba County jail booking clerk and a city court clerk:

• He was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning (May 30) on Highway 19 South in Philadelphia and charged with public intoxication. The Neshoba Democrat's county jail docket listed it as "public intoxication-other substance," but the arrest report only lists it as "public intox."

• Bond was set at $500, and Thames got out of jail the same day by posting $100 of the bond.

• His court date is June 15 at 3 p.m.

wonder if the driver got charged with anything? Obviously he was riding with someone or it would be DUI. And I wouldn't think he would be just walking down the road at 3:30 in the morning.

it takes two people to get a public intoxication. So once you get out of the car, you have yourself and the cop. That equals 2.

that all of the **** he took on SPS caused someone at the Daily Journal to tell Locke to get his **** together if he wanted to keep his job. Yep, we're firing coaches, breaking national news, causing local candidates to get their *** kicked and making underqualified journalists work instead of piss around.

He's been much improved over the past few weeks. Good job, 2HD.

He has definitely stepped up his game. Doubt he would qualify as one of Mullen's "Champions" yet but he is moving in the right direction.

would start bitching about all the damn bailouts and G.M. (Government Motors). Maybe something could be done before it's too late.

Drunkenness on a public highway, without doubt, is drunkenness in a public place, in the sense of the statute. Appellants were arrested while in an automobile where the intoxicating [***5] liquor was found. The authority to arrest appellants carried with it the authority of the officers to search their persons and the automobile in which they were driving.

/from a 1929 mississippi case

here's the current statute, which also includes public profanity:

§ 97-29-47. Profanity or drunkenness in public place

If any person shall profanely swear or curse, or use vulgar and indecent language, or be drunk in any public place, in the presence of two (2) or more persons, he shall, on conviction thereof, be fined not more than one hundred dollars ($ 100.00) or be imprisoned in the county jail not more than thirty (30) days or both.
