In case you missed it last year, our "most experienced receiving corps" was basically average at best, with a sprinkle of terrible in stretches. We better hope Morrow and Tubby force themselves into big roles this year, particularly with M. Johnson out. That said, I dont think the sky is falling because he wasnt listed in the 2-deep. He will have plenty of PT in the JSU game.
I understand why everyone seems to have an affinity for the seniors, they show flashes of very solid play. However, it is obvious that none of them are gamebreakers. Arceto has great hands and body control but he is either undersized or too slow for the position he plays. Chris Smith is a possession receiver at best thus far. Bumphis has the ability, but hasnt put it together. Heavens apparently doesnt bring enough to the table to get regular looks or touches. Basically, all 4 of those guys would be great complimentary players if we had a true go-to threat.
Honestly, the only receiver I saw during a game last year that looked like he could beat defenses was Robert Johnson, but apparently we cant teach him anything more than the WR screen.
We essentially have to see Bumphis put it all together and an emergence from Morrow and Tubby to see any appreciable improvement in the passing game this year. Although they are solid players, I dont think we can get any more out of Smith, Clark, Heavens or R. Sanders - they are playing at their ceiling.
