Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was heavily criticized yesterday for showing up in the Fort Myers Beach area wearing campaign gear, stopping Hurricane Ian relief efforts for a photo-op, and then calling residents liars after they expressed frustration with the DeSantis-induced recovery delays.

He's about to get taken to the woodshed for not dealing with the property insurance crisis in FL. Just last year 6 more insurers in the state went insolvent. More are refusing to cover property in the state. The state run (hmmm... sounds like socialism) insurance company is the only org filling in the gaps. They are now forcing people to update 15 year old roofs, or their premiums will triple. Ian will likely force others to be insolvent, which will then flow to the taxpayers in the state.

Yes, a lot of this is due to climate change and increasing power and damage of storms as well as rising sea levels and storm surges. But a less talked about aspect is that FL is exceptionally litigation-friendly, and property insurance cos have felt the brunt of those lawsuits, many of which are frivolous. DeSantis needs to get back to work and do the job he was elected for, instead of campaigning for the job he wants.

you know the insurers have re-insurers, right?

So the insurers insurers would need to be insolvent before the liability fell to the state. Long way to go.

Trump refused federal aid to California for the wildfires. The fires, btw, which were the result of the federal government not managing federal lands. Imagine if Biden refused aid to Florida?

I wish Republicans would recognize how far this party has shifted from the days of Reagan, Dole, McCain, Bush, etc. A competent Republican party would do wonders for this country.

Sorry, but I'm all outta tears for Lil Ms Puss N Boots after he's used the majority of his legislative agenda to own the libs. I wouldn't even be surprised if he tried to re-direct monies away from areas he considers too liberal, because that's the kind of mis-trust he's earned! I feel horribly for the victims of this disaster but Florida deserves better than him.

It's not that simple. And you know those costs will trickle down.

There is a state law that allows Citizens to assess non-policy holders if it can't pay its claims. Residents will likely see a Hurricane Tax after this, and we already have the highest insurance costs in the country.

My auto insurance went up 50% this year. He needs to get back to work.

I don’t watch msnbc. If you look around, it’s what a lot of people are saying. A lot of people are taking about how Desantis bungled the hurricane. A lot of people think we should be looking into it.

And there is a lot of talk about whether a guy who shuts down hurricane operations for two hours so he can prance around in his Clean white boots and take pictures can be a strong president. You think your boy Putin would wear that ****?
