did anyone notice the unbalanced line we ran several times against LSU?

i was there, and i usually notice those type things, but in the 3rd quarter, we ran the ball several times (successfully) to dixon behind an unbalanced line. here's a picture of the formation in case you missed it too.

this coaching staff really has me excited. the wool is going to be thick - maybe not this year, but soon...

Aside from the obvious, here's what I like about our offense - everybody looks like the know what they're doing.

In the Croom Coast Offense, WRs walked up to the line looking around like they weren't sure where they were supposed to be. Lots of folks correcting others or themselves at the line of scrimmage. Safe to say they weren't any more confident about the route that needed to be run. Hell, half the time, I bet it was just backyard football between the QBs and WRs.

but if we have a running QB, that play could be Dixon for 6. If we run option right and the DE bites on the QB, and the QB tosses, that leaves 3 blockers for the remaining 3 defenders. This is why Mullen wants a mobile QB and WRs that can actually block. You have to win the numbers game by making the defense use a guy to account for the QB, then it's just athletes making plays.

What was the outcome of the play? I don't recall much happening on it.
Don't you know play calling is all about creativity and courage, not outcome?

totally single wing...maybe a "single wing spread"???...regardless it is an exciting looking formation with a helluva lot of potential to cause confusion..on a defense.

you've got the strong side slot guy covering Green on that play, making him ineligible (yes, I realize you've already got 4 eligibles on the f'n play to begin with, plus the back) - jus sayin. Of course, Green is on 84, who should have been arrested for child molestation the way he penetrated everything in sight all day.

i think it is green who is split wide left. the five linemen are just unbalanced (i think it went T,G,G,C,T from left to right). i like it, because we ran the option out of it, but you also have the threat of the bubble screen to bumphis the other way.

for those that asked, we ran the formation twice in a row, resulting in rushes of 12 and 5 yards for dixon.

Leave the right end unblocked leaving the tackle to go get the FS. Crack back with the furtherst inside reciever to the right. Man up on the two on the outside. If the D lines up to this in the same it could be a big play.</p>

I've been watching MSU football, this team is by far the most organized on offense I've ever seen. Really, is it that hard?

And on top of that, despite personally disagreeing on the last couple of play calls of the LSU game, I must say that I like the creativity of the offensive staff. 95% of the play calls are really good. You can't ask for much more than that.

I just want to see what they can do with a real QB.

In the SEC title game last year, the Bama defense was wearing wristbands to try to help keep up with what the offense was doing. The announcers said that Bama's DC said that Florida ran 4 different offenses and he'd never seen a team as organized on offense as they were.

I was finally watching my recording of the game last night and noticed these plays. I think it was during the drive we kicked the 4th quarter field goal.

The announcers said nothing about the formation. It looked like we ran the same play twice in a row...handoff to Dixon who ran behind the left guard(s) and tackle for about 12 yards and then 5 yards like lawdawg02 said. Effective.

We should have scored on that drive.
