Did Eliot and Stoops just throw the entire defense under the bus?

This staff for sure lost some more players with that. This stafff sucks really hard!!

A little over the top I believe. Why worry about some statement that may have been taken out of context. Helen Keller could see that we have problems with the defense. Schemes, simplifying, putting a charge up their a.., whatever, it boils down to talent. We did lose 5 of our top 6 tacklers from last season, we lost the big D lineman right before the season started, so it's pretty evident that we lack players. What's the answer? thats the 64,000,000 question. In looking at our current lineup, we have 4 guys down in their stance, looks like 2 linebackers standing way off the line and 4 or 5 defensive backs doing I dont know what. Do we not blitz enough?

Funny how the notorious hard *** Brian Kelly says the coaches need to do better after they start 0-2 and our coaches blame the players. Tells you all you need to know right there.

Seriously? Its the players fault?

This is the exact same way that Joker was after not giving the ball to Randall Cobb against Tennessee. He said something about "... if you had seen what I saw it we should have walked in.." As if: (1) a play call that had the smallest guy on the offense blocking for the slowest is actually good play calling and (2) Joker had actually outsmarted Lane Kiffin.

If only the players had executed the brilliance of their coaches.

Meanwhile, the school has now had a third straight guy on his last head coaching job.

The same people who are criticizing Stoops for making it about the players, did cartwheels when Mike Leach went on his tirade last week.

I understand what you are saying, but Leach actually has been an effective head coach... Has had winning seasons.. Stoops, not so much.. That is why we question him more.

Complicated defense?? Never heard of such a thing. Defense isn't nearly as complicated as offense. I've said it from the beginning. They need to just line and play football. His complicated crap clearly isn't fooling anybody but his own players
You can't line up and play football if you don't have football players, and that seems to be what Stoops is saying about his defensive unit. One would think after 4 years the "D" would begin to understand what the coaches want.Of course this is hard ti do if the coaches don't know themselves.

Actually pretty ******, but I am sure it will get better...Ty for asking
Looking forward to the day that this football program can pick a winning direction. How I wish stoops was the guy...if just doesn't seem that way.
Aside: I have to deal with a former USCjr QB on Sunday. He is working on QB fundamentals with my boy.
How is your day?

Pretty good, any day that I wake breathing is a great day, lol. Believe me I was really wishing that Stoops was the one too. How old is your boy? I had four boys and coached them in every sport, they would have probably been better if I had did like you. Enjoy it, they grow up so fast.

I disagree wholehearted with a coach not taking responsibility. But say Stoops is right. If you don't have the players in year 4 who is that on?? So either way he loses, on him either way.

i try to enjoy every minute.
I have a 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl.
He plays flag football right now. We don't have a pop warner or LL in our area. No tackle until 5th or 6th grade. (Which is probably a good thing)
I know it's early for individual coaching, but he is the only kid that can somewhat play QB on his team. He is a lithe on the small size (but very quick) so he was is lacking in confidence on some throws. Working on the basics with drills and proper technique is helping a lot. 4 td passes first two games.
I try to stay outa the way and just takes notes on how he should be doing his drills. I coach the defense,

It is so much fun spending so much time with him...I was truly blessed with two awesome kids.

I'm sure four boys kept you very busy. Hope they are taking care of "pops" now

You know we sure are hard on the coaches but don't seem to hold any of the players accountable. At some point, you as a player have to go make plays. Coaches can't do it all.

The players are there and the coaches make a great amount of money to get the players ready. It's not happening so far.

LOL, they are thankfully but stay involved with your kids. Out of high school I coached grade school basketball team and enjoyed it immensely. After I married and had kids big enough to play, I decided that I might pressure them too much so I let someone else coach them, big mistake. The guy knew nothing so he taught nothing and I know it's not the pros but at least teach the basic fundamentals. I think individual coaching is essential because it gives the kids the ability to see teaching from another side. God knows my boys loved their baseball instructor more then me. Plus later on, I have always loved hearing them talk about how fun the camps were and how much they picked up. You have a lifetime of memories coming up, enjoy every minute.

Leach is a proven winner. He has earned the right to call out his team's effort. Stoops hasn't proven anything other than he's in year 4 of his plan and all he's proven is that he's an above average recruiter.
Why should wins or loss record be the deciding point if a coach can criticize his players? The players need to be held accountable as same as the coaches.

Because W/L's are an indication that a coach knows what he's talking about and if the kids are executing what he teaches, they can win. Leach has taken his team to bowl games 12 out of 14 season as a HC, has won 8 or more games 7 out of those 12 seasons and even had an 11 win season at TT in the Big 12 and a 9 win season (last year) at a perennial toilet program like Washington St. He can criticize his kids and get the benefit of the doubt.

Stoops is on year 4 and, barring a miracle, will be 0-4 in bowl bid attempts, still has issues with lining up right, having enough people on the field, getting the play call in, getting special team to not screw up every 3rd game, etc. He hasn't won anything so excuse me while I laugh as he systematically throws everyone under the bus to avoid the real issue - his lack of leadership and his inability to excel as a HC.

If the defense isn't smart and tough in year 4, then how the hell does DJ Eliot still have a job?

Because if you do not have any actual credentials as a head coach and you come out to the media and blame spectacularly bad special teams play on a particular player... calling him out BY NAME... in order to take heat of your backwards hat wearing disaster of a special teams coach (and yourself) and then proceed to prove over the next couple of years that you really had no clue and no plan all along you end up looking really weak on your way out of town and back to the minors.

If you have a proven record then you stay employable.

Sounds like many fans want it both ways. We want a coach that will "tell it like it is" ,but when that currently unpopular coach does it as he sees it, the world shifts off its axis.

If by year 4 of your tenure, you can't teach, motivate, inspire or earn the confidence of your players individually or as a team, then why would you expose yourself as a coach by calling these same players out to the media????

It's obvious that the wheels are coming off with every passing moment of the Mark Stoops era of UK Football. He's sounding more and more like Bill Curry every time he addresses the public.

SAD:cry:

I thought Stoops sounded like a whipped Coach at his press conference. I think he and Elliot literally don't know what to do and have basically thrown up their hands. I think this is/was a last ditch plea to see if the players can fire themselves up. Because at this point I think the Coaches can't. Either we see a team trying to prove someone wrong on Saturday or it could be REALLY UGLY and noticeable right from the start.
