but nothing spectacular. We will get a feel for how this might play out before tipoff. If a month from today Hood, Gray, and maybe Pollard are on the roster, then we're OK in all likelihood.

Showed some nerves. A few too many likes, and ums. I think the speech was geared toward players and recruits who were listening. They are a bigger priority than the fans at this point. I thought he settled in as it went along.

but finished up strong, especially answering the questions. I like the fact that I think we are gonna get straight forward answers and no hiding stuff like we did in the past. He seems very confident in his abilities and I think he will hit it off with the players. Hell, I'd want to play for him after listening to this.

I mean, he had to address the "doubts and fears" thing right out of the box. Obviously Stricklin has been getting hammered with negative feedback so it had to be addressed directly. Sort of a shut the F up and support the program message from the admin. I get it. But it doesn't change the fact that he's starting from behind in terms of support, excitement, positive energy. Telling me to put away my doubts and fears has the opposite effect.

Impressions:

Decent speaker.
Self confident. But what coach at this level isn't self-confident. They all think they're the next john wooden.
Probably going to say **** he shouldn't. i.e., learning curve being the mouth to the media.

But he seemed both intelligent and easy to relate to, which is a hard combination.

He seems like a Mullen to me. Knows his sport, knows how to work with players, but will need a few years to gain the program experience necessary to be successful long term. I hope we keep the "old coach"* around to help out. At least Sherill has been around for Mullen.

* I missed this reference somewhere and have no idea what you idiots are talking about

I like him. Seems pretty charismatic. After he gets done shaking hands, he needs to get his *** recrootin'.

Really liked the way he said, "All I know how to do is win."I like his approach to building a staff and the way he sent some messages out to the current players (Hood in particular) and recruits.

Like everybody, my first reaction was, "Who?" But the more I read about him and hear him, the moreI think he could be a very good coach for us.

I am not certain that he was addressing the Sidney situation but it sure felt like he knew all too well about it. It sounds like he is going to heavily push personal accountability to each player. I just hope he is willing in the first year to show that through his actions courtside (ie., even though we will lack depth, he will sit your *** down if you are walking the floor instead of hussling back for defense).

Other than that, he said mostly what I expected him to say and did it pretty well. The proof will be in his actions of course.

He started off a little weak. Seemed uncomfortable, but then he settled in really nice. I like him.

Didn't he eliminate us from his top teams a week or so ago? Hope I'm wrong, but I think we are a long shot to get him.

Listening to it now. I think he's doing fine - definitely saying all the right things. Obviously nervous, but this is a big step for him.

then I really don't care much about how the press conference was received. Press conferences tell you essentially nothing other than it is good to get the fans in your corner as best you can. But heck, Croom had a home run press conference was totally unprepared to head up an SEC college football program. Talent is the biggest factor in basketball so is Ray shows his worth by holding the class and adding Pollard THAT will show me that he has the chance to really be good. That said though he will probably be fortunate to hold Gray and I will be shocked if he reels in Pollard at this late date.
